We're looking for a Senior Packaging Engineer to lead the development, testing, and commercialization of innovative cold chain and protective packaging solutions. This is a highly visible role that combines hands-on engineering, laboratory testing, customer collaboration, and new product development.

Senior Packaging Engineer

Location: Pregis IQ Innovation Headquarters, Aurora, Illinois

Reports To: Senior Manager, Packaging Services

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of cold chain and protective packaging solutions
• Develop and validate thermal packaging systems through laboratory and distribution testing
• Design and execute qualification protocols aligned with ISTA, ASTM, and customer requirements
• Partner with customers to solve complex packaging, distribution, and temperature-control challenges
• Analyze test data and provide technical recommendations that improve performance, sustainability, and cost efficiency
• Support commercialization activities, manufacturing transfer, and product launches
• Manage multiple customer projects while contributing to innovation initiatives across Pregis IQ
• Serve as a technical resource for customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders

What We're Looking For

• BS in Packaging, Mechanical, Materials Science, or related Engineering discipline
• 3-7+ years of packaging engineering, cold chain, thermal package testing, or product development experience
• Experience developing solutions from concept through validation and commercialization
• Strong understanding of thermal packaging systems and heat transfer principles
• Knowledge of ISTA and ASTM testing methodologies
• Experience working directly with customers on technical projects

Preferred Experience

• Pharmaceutical, life sciences, healthcare, biologics, food, or temperature-sensitive distribution environments
• Thermal qualification testing (ISTA 7D, ISTA 7E)
• Package testing laboratories and environmental chambers
• SolidWorks, ArtiosCAD, Cape Pack, TOPS Pro, or similar engineering tools
• Sustainability initiatives, thermal modeling, or predictive engineering tools

Compensation

$115,000-$145,000 base salary, depending on experience
