Senior Platform Engineer — Build the execution engine behind long-running AI agent sessions. San Francisco, on-site.
We're building a hybrid of AI and software standing on one shared brain: it holds your context and hands you real software built on top of it. We're a team of about 15, backed by top-tier investors and Y Combinator, based in the Presidio, San Francisco.
Our agent runtime has to keep track of work when a tool fails or new code ships mid-task. This is a senior, hands-on role — you'll make the architecture calls with the team, write the code, and own it in production.
What You'll Do
→ Build the runtime that starts agent work, carries session state through tool calls, and resumes interrupted runs
→ Choose between actors and jobs for different kinds of work, and check how they behave when sessions overlap
→ Design how long-running processes drain or resume across releases with work still in flight
→ Handle retries and timeouts — including when an external action succeeded but the response never came back
What We're Looking For
→ You've built and operated stateful backend systems in production, including work that outlasts the request that started it
→ You've debugged concurrency, retries, or recovery in code you've owned
→ You're productive in TypeScript — Cloudflare Workers, Durable Objects or another actor-based runtime is a bonus
Base $180K–$240K + meaningful early-stage equity, plus health, dental, 401(k), considerable PTO. Bay Area based or willing to relocate; US work authorisation required (O-1/J-1 sponsorship possible for exceptional candidates).
