Scope builds AI for field knowledge workers, starting with inspectors.
Standards are vital for the safety of our infrastructure. Spending hours manually documenting them is not.
Dave is an inspector. Today he's climbing through one of Europe's biggest chemical plants, looking for the corrosion that could shut the whole site down, with a notebook and pen in hand. Tomorrow, he'll spend even longer on the part of the job he hates: turning those scribbles into a report.
We're building the best AI-native data collection layer for the 2 billion field workers like Dave. Scope radically simplifies how inspectors collect data in the field, make decisions, and produce reports. Along the way, we're building the world's largest dataset on the condition of the built world and the decisions experts make about it.
It's a $2T market and we're just getting started, with ambitions. We work with 6 of the top 10 companies in the space. Our customers inspect facilities and products for companies including AstraZeneca and SpaceX.
We've assembled a best-in-class team: acquired and future founders, people from institutions like Imperial, Carnegie Mellon and Oxford, and from firms like Goldman Sachs, Flexport and Amazon.
We've raised an oversubscribed Series A $20m led by Index Ventures, plus $4m pre-seed with Susa Ventures the firms behind Figma, Revolut and Wiz, with 100+ unicorns backed to date.
About the role
We're hiring our first Product Designer.
Every engineer at Scope is a product engineer: they talk to users, decide what to build and ship it themselves. You'll work the same way, with design as your edge, and help the engineers around you to build a better product. That covers the whole experience, not just the surface: which problem we solve, how the flow works, what happens when things go wrong, and how it all looks.
We work in person five days a week from our office in Farringdon.
What you'll work on
Some examples of surfaces in our product that will need your help:
Our mobile app gets used inside tanks and on top of pressure vessels. People wear thick gloves, there's usually no signal, and one hand is often holding on to something. Most of what makes a normal app pleasant doesn't apply there, so a big part of the job is figuring out what does.
Then there's the report. How AI and the inspector will work together to produce 40 page reports and review them is something nobody has designed well yet.
Inspectors but also decision makers should be able to ask things like "Which tanks were over the corrosion limit last year?”
What you'll do
Go on site with inspectors and test your designs there, gloves and all.
Own the design of every launch
Prototype fast, in code when it helps.
Work next to engineers while they build, so the details come out right.
Create slick demos to be used in sales for what the product will look like in 12 months
Build the design system that lets engineers ship great work without waiting on you.
Who you are
Minimum 5 years designing products
You sweat the mobile details: touch targets, offline, errors.
You know how to integrate AI seamlessly into user experience
Happy to spend time in the field, excited by the physical world
Bonus if you've designed for industrial or field work, or prototype in code.
Interview process
Intro call.
Portfolio deep dive with Ish and an engineer: one project, including what went wrong.
Interview with a cofounder: Jonny (CEO) or Jakob (CTO and CPO).
Onsite: a real Scope design problem, worked on with the team, then a short presentation.
