WORLD WIDE PROFESSIONAL SOLUTIONS is a project solutions organization committed to implementing lean construction, collaborative contracting, and execution approaches to enable breakthroughs in performance.
WWPS is hiring a Senior Project Manager, Utility Electrical, to lead the utility electrical and high voltage substation scope for a large-scale data center project in Vernon, TX. This is a full time, 100% onsite role.
This is a high visibility owner’s representative role focused on the Futility electrical package, including the high voltage utility interconnection, substation, protection and controls, energization, and interface to the data center electrical distribution system. You will own execution across design, construction, commissioning, and turnover.
Wherever you are based, we provide full relocation or travel support including per diem, ensuring a smooth transition so you can hit the ground running from day one.
What Makes This Role Different
- Owner’s representative leadership for the utility electrical and high voltage substation package
- Direct coordination across the serving utility, substation contractors, engineering teams, vendors, commissioning teams, and data center stakeholders
- Technical scope covering utility interconnection, transformers, breakers, switchyard equipment, protection and controls, metering, SCADA, grounding, and incoming power distribution
- Ownership of energization readiness, switching coordination, testing, commissioning, and turnover of mission critical power infrastructure
- A specialized role for a project leader who understands utility and substation construction, not only building level MEP electrical work
What You Will Do
- Lead full lifecycle delivery of the utility electrical scope from design coordination and procurement through construction, energization, commissioning, and turnover
- Serve as the primary owner’s representative interface with the serving utility, electrical EPC or contractor, design engineers, equipment vendors, commissioning teams, and site leadership
- Manage high voltage substation and switchyard scope including transformers, breakers, disconnect switches, bus, instrument transformers, control buildings, station service, grounding systems, cable systems, and associated civil interfaces
- Drive utility interconnection milestones, design approvals, long lead equipment procurement, outage and switching coordination, and required energization dates
- Review and challenge electrical single line diagrams, substation layouts, equipment submittals, protection and control schemes, relay coordination, grounding studies, and construction packages
- Oversee protection and controls, relaying, SCADA, telecom, revenue or utility metering, and the interfaces between utility systems and the data center electrical distribution network
- Coordinate installation and testing of high voltage and medium voltage cables, terminations, transformers, switchgear, breakers, grounding, and related electrical infrastructure
- Lead quality and commissioning readiness including factory acceptance testing, field acceptance testing, relay testing, electrical testing, punch resolution, and energization documentation
- Develop and manage safe energization, switching, lockout tagout, outage, and turnover plans in alignment with utility requirements, NEC, NESC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and project standards
- Control schedule, cost, risk, change management, contractor performance, and interface issues for the utility electrical workstream
- Identify constructability, sequencing, access, equipment delivery, and cross discipline interface risks early and drive them to resolution
What You Bring
- 12 to 20+ years of construction project management experience with significant electrical infrastructure responsibility
- Strong experience delivering utility substations, high voltage electrical infrastructure, utility interconnections, transmission or distribution projects, or comparable mission critical power systems
- Hands on knowledge of substation construction, power transformers, high voltage and medium voltage switchgear, breakers, protection and controls, relays, grounding, cable systems, and energization
- Ability to read and manage execution from single line diagrams, electrical specifications, protection and control drawings, substation layouts, and commissioning procedures
- Proven ability to lead contractors, engineers, utilities, vendors, commissioning teams, and multidisciplinary project stakeholders
- Experience with electrical QA and QC, testing, commissioning, turnover, energization planning, and safe work practices around energized systems
- Proficiency with project controls and construction management tools such as Procore, Primavera P6, or MS Project
Preferred Background
- Hyperscale data center or mission critical utility electrical experience strongly preferred
- Direct, high voltage substation, utility interconnect, switchyard, or owner’s representative electrical package experience is highly relevant
- Background with an electric utility, substation EPC, electrical contractor, engineering firm, commissioning provider, or large industrial power project is highly transferable
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, construction management, engineering, or a related field. PE, PMP, or electrical commissioning credentials are a plus
Compensation and Benefits
- Highly competitive compensation aligned with senior level utility electrical and project leadership experience
- Per diem and travel support where applicable
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage
- Life insurance and disability coverage
- Company matched retirement plan
- Paid time off and paid holidays
Why Top Candidates Choose WWPS
- Lead one of the most technically critical workstreams on a large-scale data center program
- Operate in a true owner’s representative capacity with direct influence on utility power delivery, energization, and project outcomes
- Work at the intersection of utility infrastructure, high voltage substations, mission critical electrical systems, and data center construction
- Join a project environment where electrical reliability, schedule certainty, and safe energization are central to success
- Be part of a company that is scaling and investing in specialized technical project leadership
Bottom Line
If you are a Senior Project Manager with deep utility electrical or substation experience who can lead a power delivery package from design through energization and turnover, this role offers direct ownership of one of the most critical scopes on a major data center project in Vernon, Texas.
