We're looking for an experienced Senior Building Inspector to join Cornwall Council's Building Control service. We provide a professional, customer-focused service to businesses and communities across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Whether you're registered at a higher RBI class or currently working at Class 2A and looking to progress, this could be the ideal next step in your career. The Role As a Senior Building Inspector, you will help ensure buildings across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are safe, sustainable, accessible and compliant with Building Regulations. You'll provide expert advice to customers, developers and construction professionals while supporting the delivery of a high-quality Building Control service. In this role you'll: Undertake complex building regulation assessments and inspections. Provide regulatory advice to a wide range of stakeholders. Support compliance, enforcement and public safety activities where required. Mentor and support less experienced colleagues. Contribute specialist expertise to the ongoing development of the service. Working Pattern Whilst the formal work base for this role is New County Hall, Truro, the Building Control team largely operates through home-based and agile working arrangements, with office facilities available across Cornwall. What You'll Need to Succeed We're looking for customer-focused Building Inspectors with strong technical expertise, communication and relationship-building skills. You will: Have substantial experience working within a Building Control environment. Demonstrate a strong understanding of Building Regulations, associated legislation and technical guidance. Be confident managing competing priorities and workloads effectively. Deliver excellent customer service and professional advice. Be able to work independently whilst contributing positively to team performance. Ideally hold membership of a relevant professional body such as CIOB, RICS or CABE. Ideally be registered as a Class 2A-F Registered Building Inspector. We also welcome applications from Class 2A Registered Building Inspectors, or those working towards higher registration classes. If you're currently registered at Class 2A, we'll support your progression through mentoring, training, myLABC resources, CPD and practical experience to help you achieve higher registration classes.
