Senior Technical Sourcing Manager, Thermal & Mechanical is the senior commercial and technical sourcing lead for the thermal and mechanical commodities that cool and house IREN’s AI infrastructure, including liquid cooling CDUs, cold plates, manifolds, and rear-door heat exchangers, as well as air cooling hardware, chassis, enclosures, and sheet metal and CNC-machined or cast structural parts. Reporting to the Director, Technical Sourcing – Platforms, this leader independently develops and drives commercial sourcing strategy and negotiations for these commodities from concept through volume production, operating with a high degree of autonomy and bringing well-formed recommendations and solutions rather than requiring day-to-day direction. This role partners closely with Engineering, Integrated Planning, AI Hardware Supply Chain Operations, AI Hardware Quality Engineering, and Finance, operates within the supplier management framework set by Strategy and Transformation, and partners with the Director for strategic guidance, coaching, and alignment on the highest-impact decisions, to secure the cost, terms, and supply resilience needed to support IREN’s rapid AI datacenter capacity growth.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, a related field, or an engineering discipline; Master’s degree or MBA preferred. Equivalent experience in high-tech commodity management will be considered.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, commodity management, or commercial supply chain roles supporting data center, hyperscaler, cloud, or AI infrastructure hardware, with direct exposure to mechanical or thermal/liquid cooling commodities.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy — independently structuring sourcing strategy, negotiation approach, and commercial recommendations, and escalating only the highest-impact or most ambiguous decisions.
  • Proven track record leading supplier negotiations, RFP/RFI/RFQ processes, and business awards, and negotiating master supply agreements (MSAs) and statements of work (SOWs).
  • Strong commercial acumen, with demonstrated experience in should-cost modeling, total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis, and pricing strategy to drive negotiation outcomes.
  • Working familiarity with thermal management hardware (liquid cooling CDUs, cold plates, manifolds, rear-door heat exchangers, air cooling and heat sinks) and mechanical/structural components (chassis, enclosures, sheet metal and CNC-machined or cast parts), sufficient to engage credibly with Engineering and suppliers on commercial and roadmap discussions.
  • Experience managing supplier commercial performance through structured business reviews, covering cost, delivery, and contractual commitments.
  • Strong executive relationship management and negotiation skills, with the ability to build credibility with suppliers and internal stakeholders alike.
Job Responsibilities
  • Develop and own commercial sourcing strategy and a multi-generational roadmap for thermal (liquid and air cooling) and mechanical/structural commodities, applying the supplier management framework set by Strategy and Transformation.
  • Lead supplier selection for new thermal and mechanical components, including RFP/RFI/RFQ processes, commercial negotiations, and business awards.
  • Negotiate and administer master supply agreements (MSAs), statements of work (SOWs), and pricing structures, applying should-cost and TCO modeling to optimize total cost across thermal and mechanical commodities.
  • Drive commercial terms and cost negotiations for thermal and mechanical hardware NPI, supporting the transition from prototype and qualification builds through volume production ramp aligned to rack and data center deployment timelines.
  • Partner with Engineering to align supplier roadmaps with IREN’s thermal and mechanical cost, performance, and reliability requirements, ensuring commercial terms keep pace with technology transitions.

  • Build and maintain supplier relationships across the thermal and mechanical supply base, monitoring commercial performance — cost, delivery, and contract compliance — through structured supplier business reviews.
  • Maintain market and pricing intelligence on the thermal and mechanical supply base to inform sourcing strategy and negotiation leverage.
  • Develop diverse and resilient commercial sourcing options across the thermal and mechanical supply base to mitigate capacity, tooling lead-time, yield, regional-concentration, and single-source risk.
  • Collaborate with Integrated Planning and AI Hardware Supply Chain Operations to translate capacity plans and demand signals into executable commercial commitments for thermal and mechanical hardware.
  • Act as a senior, largely autonomous commercial resource within the platform sourcing team, contributing to best practices, KPIs, and governance cadences as IREN’s platform sourcing team scales, and partnering with the Director for coaching and guidance on the highest-impact decisions.
Other important requirements
  • Pre-employment screening, including background check and substance testing may be required according to company policies.
  • Must be able to reliably commute to the assigned office location on scheduled in-office days under the hybrid work arrangement.
  • This role may involve periodic travel to supplier and vendor sites, data centers, and industry events. IREN does not yet have an office in the Bay Area (a Santa Clara office is planned); until it opens, this role will work remotely, transitioning to hybrid on-site work once the office is established.
