Senior/Lead Scientist USP – MSAT
Cell Culture | Technology Transfer | Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing
Bring your cell-culture expertise into the decisions that shape manufacturing.
Moving an upstream process into manufacturing takes more than scientific knowledge. It requires clear documentation, a thorough understanding of process risks, and the ability to bring technical teams together when challenges arise.
We’re recruiting on behalf of a large biopharmaceutical manufacturing company for a Senior/Lead Scientist within its Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) team.
This opportunity combines upstream technology transfer, process validation, and manufacturing-scale troubleshooting with direct client interaction. It is a role for a scientist who enjoys connecting process understanding with practical manufacturing execution.
This role is based outside Europe and requires international relocation. The company will provide support with both relocation and accommodation to help you settle into your new location.
The Role
You will contribute to the transfer of upstream cell-culture processes into GMP manufacturing, working closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain. Alongside the technical work, you will generate manufacturing documentation, assess process risks, and help lead client discussions on technology transfer and troubleshooting.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Upstream technology transfer: Perform transfer activities covering new product introduction, process validation, and continued process verification.
- GMP documentation and risk assessment: Generate documentation for upstream manufacturing transfers and assess risks associated with cell-culture processes.
- Manufacturing troubleshooting and client collaboration: Lead technical discussions with clients on manufacturing-scale challenges and technology-transfer activities.
- Cross-functional coordination: Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and other relevant departments to support transfer execution.
- Site engagement and continuous improvement: Lead client PIP visits at the manufacturing site, contribute to audit responses, and improve upstream technology-transfer workflows.
What You Bring
You have a strong foundation in upstream processing and can translate technical knowledge into clear documentation, structured investigations, and effective collaboration.
The role requires:
- Relevant education and experience: A bachelor’s degree or above in biotechnology, chemical engineering, or a related biological discipline, together with more than three years of experience in cell-culture process development or technology transfer.
- GMP-document generation: Experience preparing documents such as PCS, quality risk assessments (QRA), master batch records (MBR), and standard operating procedures (SOP).
- Validation and quality experience: Practical involvement in process validation, deviation handling, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and the generation of quality risk-assessment documentation.
- Upstream and compliance knowledge: Upstream-process expertise and an understanding of current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) guidelines.
- English communication: Spoken and written English fluent proficiency.
Why Explore This Opportunity?
This role brings together scientific depth, manufacturing involvement, and client-facing responsibility. You will apply your upstream expertise not only to understanding a process, but also to documenting how it should run, assessing what could affect it, and helping teams address technical challenges.
For someone who enjoys solving problems across functions and is ready for an international career move, this opportunity combines meaningful technical work with company-supported relocation.
