Our focus is on the health and safety of our teammates as well as work-life balance and diversity and inclusion. From generous benefits to a variety of employee resource groups, we strive to build paths that encourage employees to stretch themselves professionally. We want to help you grow, develop, and learn new things. You’re constantly evolving, so shouldn’t your opportunities be, too?

Work Schedule: Ally designates roles as (1) fully on-site, (2) hybrid, or (3) fully remote. Hybrid roles are generally expected to be in the office a certain number of days per week as indicated by your manager. Your hiring manager will discuss this role's specific work requirements with you during the hiring process. All work requirements are subject to change at any time based on leader discretion and/or business need.

The Opportunity

**At this time, Ally will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position**

Location: Charlotte, NC in-office

We are seeking a hands-on Software Engineer to contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, support, and continuous improvement of applications across the Audit and Risk technology portfolio. In this role, you will help deliver technology solutions that support assurance, testing and monitoring, risk management, and business resilience. You will work closely with engineers, product owners, business partners, and technology teams to develop high-quality solutions while supporting the stability and reliability of production applications.

The Work Itself

  • Contribute to the design, development, testing, debugging, implementation, and support of software solutions that deliver business value and improve operational efficiency.
  • Develop full-stack features using technologies such as TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Next.js, Node.js/Express, SQL, and Python.
  • Create and enhance RESTful APIs, including controllers, middleware, service layers, route handlers, and secure authentication and authorization capabilities.
  • Implement database enhancements including schema changes, migrations, indexing strategies, seed data, and query optimization. Experience with PostgreSQL or AWS Aurora is beneficial.
  • Integrate applications with enterprise and third-party platforms such as Snowflake, Salesforce, and other business-critical systems.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Contribute to DevOps and CI/CD practices that support reliable deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of applications.
  • Maintain software quality through unit testing, automated testing, code reviews, and adherence to engineering standards and best practices.
  • Support system integration testing and user acceptance testing activities by analyzing, troubleshooting, and resolving defects.
  • Participate in production readiness activities including deployments, changes, service account maintenance, documentation updates, vulnerability remediation, and operational support activities.
  • Troubleshoot application and user issues, perform root-cause analysis, communicate status and risks clearly, and coordinate with infrastructure, database, security, network, cloud, platform, identity and access management, and other technology teams to resolve issues.
  • Review security findings, vulnerability assessments, and penetration-test results and assist with remediation efforts in accordance with technology risk and compliance requirements.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, deployment procedures, support runbooks, support guides, and knowledge base articles.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineers, architects, product owners, and business stakeholders to deliver solutions that meet business needs.
  • Participate in innovation activities, proof-of-concepts, hackathons, and continuous improvement efforts that help advance engineering practices and business capabilities.
  • Participate in scheduled after-hours work when required for production deployments, maintenance activities, or critical support events. Day-to-day work and support activities are primarily performed during business hours.

The Qualifications We're Looking For

  • 1+ years of relevant software engineering experience.
  • Experience developing software through all phases of the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, support, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency with TypeScript and experience building applications using React or a comparable modern front-end framework.
  • Experience developing or supporting RESTful APIs using Node.js/Express or similar frameworks, including controllers, middleware, service layers, and authentication integration.
  • Experience working with relational databases, SQL, and scripting languages such as Python to support application development and data processing.
  • Experience with source control, testing, debugging, secure coding practices, code reviews, and modern software delivery practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot application issues and support production systems through standard change, release, and support processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create technical documentation and communicate effectively with engineers, technology partners, and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative Agile team environment and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience supporting applications used by Internal Audit, Enterprise Risk, Compliance, Controls, or other regulated business functions is a plus.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS. AWS experience with services such as ECS Fargate, Aurora, RDS Proxy, API Gateway, IAM, Secrets Manager, or S3 is beneficial.

  • Experience balancing feature delivery with application sustainment, user support, technical debt reduction, security remediation, and operational improvements.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, ownership, problem-solving ability, and willingness to learn new technologies and business domains.
