Mission TAR’s mission is to power intelligence for the world. We are building the world’s first off-grid power plant for data centers powered by renewable technologies. We firmly believe AI should be built in the US for the benefit of all people. For that, power must be fast, clean and scalable. We are singularly focused on delivering GW-scale power faster than anyone has ever done, by rethinking every layer of the stack. We vertically integrate to solve every bottleneck, from racking systems to power electronics to dispatch algorithms to on-site construction. Leave your mark on the future of civilization-scale energy infrastructure. Company TAR is both a hardware and software company, we are building out massive, critical, physical infrastructure. (TAR is working directly with one of the largest compute providers to scale and deploy 5GWs by 2028) We operate on… High ownership. High Agency. Own project end-to-end. Great people don’t need to be managed. Speed. We achieve great things on incredible timelines. We push ourselves to go faster. First principles. No ego. No hierarchy. Challenge every assumption. Passion. Solving the energy problem is one of the largest challenges that faces the world now and in the future. About the role TAR builds fully islanded, off-grid solar and storage campuses that power AI data centers directly, with no grid connection and no gas generation, plus the proprietary racking and construction robots to build them at GW scale. The path to 5 GW deployed by 2028 raises questions that fit no existing function: an acquisition, a new financing structure, a generation technology we have not committed to, a co-located load no one has priced. Special Projects is the seat that owns them. Working directly with the founders, you take each problem from vague goal to structured recommendation to execution, and you are accountable for the outcome. This is a senior generalist role based in Austin or San Francisco. Responsibilities Own the company’s most unstructured, broad-scope problems end to end, bringing structure to vague goals and carrying each from framed options through founder decision to execution. Drive strategic finance workstreams: build the models and business cases behind capital allocation, new business lines, and build-versus-buy calls, and defend them where the decision gets made. Run acquisition opportunities from sourcing and valuation through diligence, negotiation, and close, coordinating counsel and advisors so deals move at the pace of the build. Evaluate alternative generation for our campuses, such as wind or long-duration storage, and deliver a clear answer on whether, where, and when it belongs in the design. Assess alternative ways to monetize GW-scale campuses, such as co-located loads like desalination or heat offtake, and build the commercial case for the ones worth pursuing. Pressure-test every recommendation against engineering, procurement, and project reality, working with the teams closest to the work so decisions survive execution. Stand up the workstream that follows a yes, run it yourself until it earns a permanent owner, and hand it off cleanly. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in demanding, analytical, high-ownership roles. A track record from an elite seat such as private equity, a hedge fund, or building a startup, where rigor and output were the baseline expectation. Demonstrated ability to take open-ended, ambiguous questions and return decision-ready recommendations. Strong financial modeling and transaction judgment: you can value an opportunity, structure a deal, and defend your numbers. Comfortable working across the technical, commercial, and financial dimensions of a problem with incomplete information and no template. Clear, direct communication with founders, engineers, counsel, and outside counterparties. Nice to have Founder experience, whatever the outcome. Exposure to energy, power, or infrastructure through investing, development, or operations. M&A experience with hard assets or industrial businesses. Experience standing up a new business line or entering a new market from zero.
