Florida Power & Light Company is the largest electric utility in the U.S., providing reliable energy to nearly 12 million Floridians. With one of the nation’s most fuel-efficient, cost-effective power generation fleets and industry-leading reliability, we’re redefining what’s possible in energy. Want to be part of something powerful? Join our outstanding team and help shape the future of energy.

Position Specific Description

The Market & System Analysis Senior Analyst supports long-term planning and strategic decision-making by developing, maintaining, and applying analytical models used to evaluate electric system reliability, system operations, resource planning, market opportunities, and business initiatives. This position performs complex quantitative analyses, develops planning scenarios and methodologies, evaluates large datasets, and translates analytical results into actionable insights for Energy Marketing & Trading (EMT) and other business units.

A key focus of this role will be supporting the implementation, validation, and ongoing application of SERVM for probabilistic reliability and resource adequacy analysis. The Senior Analyst will help develop modeling assumptions and methodologies, perform reliability studies, analyze model outputs, troubleshoot unexpected results, and support the integration of SERVM into ongoing planning and business processes.

The Senior Analyst works closely with stakeholders across EMT, Resource Planning, Power Delivery, and other internal organizations, as well as external consultants and software vendors. The position requires strong quantitative and statistical skills, an understanding of electric power systems, and the ability to communicate complex analytical results clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Support the implementation, validation, and ongoing use of SERVM, including development and maintenance of model inputs, assumptions, methodologies, and documentation.
  • Perform probabilistic resource adequacy and reliability studies; analyze metrics such as LOLE, LOLH, EUE, ELCC, and Planning Reserve Margin; and evaluate uncertainty related to weather, load, outages, renewable generation, and other system conditions.
  • Conduct quantitative analyses and planning studies to evaluate the reliability, operational, and economic impacts of generation additions and retirements, energy storage, renewable resources, load growth, transmission limitations, and wholesale energy transactions.
  • Analyze large and complex datasets and model outputs, perform sensitivity and statistical analyses, investigate unexpected results, and identify key drivers and insights to support planning and business decisions.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, consultants, and software vendors to improve analytical methodologies and tools, and clearly communicate study results, conclusions, and recommendations to technical and management audiences.

Required Qualifications of the successful candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, statistical, and problem-solving skills, with experience working with large datasets and complex analytical models.
  • Strong understanding of electric power systems, generation planning, resource adequacy, reliability analysis, and energy markets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and communicate complex analytical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SERVM or other probabilistic resource adequacy and reliability modeling tools and familiarity with LOLE, LOLH, EUE, ELCC, capacity accreditation, and planning reserve margins.
  • Experience with electric system planning or production cost modeling tools such as Aurora, PLEXOS, PROMOD, GenTrader, or similar platforms.
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel and experience with analytical tools such as Python, R, SQL, Power BI, or similar applications.

Job Overview

Employees develop and apply sophisticated analytical models, evaluate uncertainty and system risk, interpret complex model outputs, and provide analytical insights and recommendations to support business and management decisions.

The role requires the ability to work with limited direction on complex analytical assignments, exercise judgment in selecting appropriate methodologies and assumptions, identify and resolve modeling issues, and clearly communicate conclusions and recommendations to stakeholders across the organization.

Job Overview

Employees in this role perform complex studies and forecast power prices for a period of 30 years. This position works closely with internal and external technical and engineering teams to develop forecasts to support existing and new projects and/or technologies.
