Position Overview

The Scientist conducts scientific research and laboratory work that supports NGC's leadership in the building products market. Working under the guidance of the Senior Scientist or Director of Technical Development, the incumbent designs and executes experiments, collects and analyzes data, and contributes technical findings to product and process development initiatives. The role centers on hands-on experimentation and characterization of existing and new products, with a focus on performance, manufacturability, and sustainability. The Scientist collaborates with the manufacturing team, vendors, and allied partners to support detailed product analysis and improvement efforts. The ability to communicate and collaborate effectively, and adherence to NGC core values during daily work, is imperative.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute assigned research and development tasks that support broader project and innovation objectives.
  • Plan and carry out scientifically sound experiments under general direction; collect, analyze, and interpret data, and clearly summarize findings, including risks, issues, and opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development of new products, technologies, laboratory techniques, and test methods, and foster information sharing across the team.
  • Apply and, with guidance, adapt test methods to quantify the physical properties of new and existing products; conduct and document witnessed test programs and draft reports for technical accuracy.
  • Support cross-functional project work alongside manufacturing, quality, and other internal functions to achieve shared objectives.
  • Build working knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, competitive products and systems, and relevant scientific literature, including their performance characteristics relative to NGC offerings.
  • Communicate technical activities, results, and support clearly, both verbally and in writing, to team members and other internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in training and onboarding technicians and entry-level staff as experience grows.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety requirements, and help maintain a safe, compliant laboratory environment.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum BS in a relevant discipline such as chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering; MS or higher preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in an industrial, laboratory, or research setting; an advanced degree may be considered in lieu of a portion of this experience.
  • Demonstrated experimental, analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills, with sound laboratory practice.
  • An organized, self-motivated contributor who works effectively under general direction.
  • A can-do attitude with a willingness to roll up sleeves and do hands-on work to get the job done.
  • A capable communicator, both verbal and written, with developing formal presentation skills.
  • A reliable team player able to manage assigned tasks and meet deadlines.
  • A willingness to travel up to approximately 40% of the time.
