Position: Staff Accountant
Reporting Relationship: General Manager
Property: The Placencia Resort (90 guestrooms)

Compensation package:
- Base Salary: $900 USD per month (gross; subject to applicable statutory deductions, including Social Security).
- Offer will be aligned based on experience and qualifications within the approved salary range
- Benefits: Paid annual vacation, paid sick leave and paid public holidays in accordance with the Belize Labour Act, plus Social Security coverage through the Social Security Board.

About the property: The Placencia Resort is a 90-room beachfront resort on Maya Beach along Belize's Placencia Peninsula, near the Belize Barrier Reef and the Maya Mountains. The resort offers one-, two- and three-bedroom accommodations, beachfront villas and suites, a pool with a swim-up bar, an overwater pier bar, a spa and a marina. Throughout 2027, the resort will undergo a full renovation and repositioning to an internationally recognized brand standard, while continuing to welcome guests with approximately 30 guestrooms, its food & beverage outlets, pool and spa.

Position Summary: The Staff Accountant supports all financial activities of The Placencia Resort, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, night audit, payroll and reporting. Reporting to the General Manager, this role helps maintain effective controls, prepares accurate and timely reports, and safeguards the resort’s assets.
This is a hands-on role during an important period of change. The Staff Accountant will help transition the resort’s accounting to Remington Hospitality systems, controls and reporting, and will support accurate financial tracking while the resort operates with about 30 guestrooms during the 2027 renovation. Key Performance Indicators:
Performance will be measured against a combination of accuracy, timeliness and control objectives, including:
- Accuracy and timeliness of month-end close and financial reports
- Payroll accuracy and on-time processing
- Timely filing and payment of statutory remittances
- Accounts receivable aging and collections
- Timely and accurate vendor payments
- Internal and external audit results
Core Responsibilities
- Accounting Operations
- Process accounts payable, including vendor invoices, approvals and payments.
- Manage accounts receivable, including guest and group billing, collections and aging reports.
- Review the daily night audit and revenue reports, and reconcile cash, credit card and bank activity.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations and month-end close schedules.
- Payroll & Statutory Compliance
- Prepare payroll accurately and on time, including overtime, service charge or tip allocation, and deductions.
- Prepare and remit statutory payments and filings, including Social Security, income tax and applicable sales and accommodation taxes, in partnership with the General Manager and Remington finance.
- Maintain accurate payroll and personnel records in line with the Belize Labour Act and company policy.
- Controls & Reporting
- Ensure proper financial controls are in place and followed throughout the resort to protect revenue, reduce expenses and safeguard assets.
- Report any deviations from policies and procedures to the General Manager and Remington finance.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports and analysis for the General Manager and department leaders.
- Support budget and forecast preparation with department leaders.
- Support internal and external audits and inventory counts.
- Transition Support
- Support the transition of accounting, payroll and reporting to Remington Hospitality systems and procedures.
- Help document accounting processes and set up vendor, payroll and chart of accounts records.
- Track renovation-related expenses and support accurate reporting during the 2027 renovation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
- Minimum 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a hotel or resort.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field preferred.
- Knowledge of Belize payroll, Social Security and tax requirements strongly preferred.
- Ability to complete complex accounting calculations, reconciliations and analysis.
- Experience with hotel property management and accounting systems is a plus.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines despite frequent interruptions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; Spanish is a plus.
- Ability to maintain staff and guest confidentiality at all times.
- Regular attendance according to established guidelines, with flexibility to work varying schedules based on business needs.

What we are looking for
- Strong business communication skills verbal and written
- Minimum 2 years' experience in hotel Accounting functions
- High work ethic and self-initiative
- Ability to complete complex financial accounting calculations and analysis
- Knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws and regulations
- Efficiently operate a ten-key calculator and a computer keyboard with capability of typing 50-60 words per minute
- Possess good math skills and strong computer skills in Microsoft Suite
