Staff Robotics Engineer

🚨 Staff Robotics Engineer & Controls | Autonomous Driving | San Francisco

I’m working with a fast-growing autonomous driving and Physical AI business that is building and deploying large-scale autonomous vehicle systems in real industrial environments.

They are looking for a Robotics Controls Engineer with 3+ years of experience to work on the core control systems behind autonomous haul trucks operating in mining environments.

This is not a research-only role. The systems are already deployed in production, with more than 100 autonomous trucks operating today, and the team is looking for engineers who can help improve performance, reliability and scale.

You’ll work across areas including:

• Model Predictive Control (MPC) and PID

• Lateral and longitudinal vehicle control

• Path following and steering control

• Localization and state estimation

• GPS/RTK + IMU sensor fusion

• Kalman Filters, EKF and UKF

• Vehicle dynamics across different payloads and terrain

• Field testing, log replay and root-cause analysis

• Production Python and C++

• ROS and Linux

• CAN Bus and vehicle interfaces

• NVIDIA Jetson

The strongest candidates will have experience deploying controls, localization or navigation systems onto real autonomous vehicles, rather than purely working in simulation or academia.

Experience in autonomous mining, heavy equipment or off-highway autonomy would be particularly valuable, but strong autonomous vehicle backgrounds are also very relevant.

What they’re looking for

• 6+ years in robotics controls / autonomous systems

• Strong Python and C++

• Hands-on ROS and Linux experience

• MPC / classical controls experience

• State estimation / sensor fusion experience

• Experience with real-world autonomous vehicle deployment

• BS/MS/PhD in Robotics, Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or similar

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering environment where systems are shipped into production

📍 San Francisco – 5 days onsite

💰 Staff: $230k–$300k base + equity
