Position Overview
Oteka Technologies is looking for hardworking, dedicated, and outstanding technicians with experience in voice and data cabling who are interested in growing with a company that takes good care of its employees and customers.
The ideal candidate should have experience installing Cat 6 and Cat 6A cabling, coaxial cable, racks, cabinets, and other cabling infrastructure. This position is responsible for cabling and termination of data networks, fiber optics, alarm systems, and access control systems, as well as testing and troubleshooting wiring problems and assisting other operations departments with project and maintenance requests.
Responsibilities
· Terminate and test new cabling and install associated hardware, including J-Hooks, cable tray, and related infrastructure.
· Set up new telecommunications and data frames.
· Apply knowledge of structured cabling and other advanced technologies.
· Read, understand, and measure from floor plans.
· Estimate materials required for various cabling projects.
· Remove abandoned cable.
· Run all cabling within the guidelines outlined in applicable National Building Codes and standards.
· Install and terminate telephone cabling, including multi-connect telephone twisted pair and other voice-grade cabling systems.
· Install and terminate data communication cabling, including fiber optics and unshielded twisted pair.
· Test and troubleshoot problems with structured cabling systems.
· Attend plan review meetings to review structured cabling requirements for construction projects.
· Work with Facilities Planning and Institutional Services Safety and Environmental departments on assigned jobs.
· Assist in the development of specifications for structured cabling systems.
· Work with Telecom and Networking teams on system design.
· Prepare design layouts needed for permitting required by Shelby County Code.
· Maintain accurate records of time and materials used on each job.
· Prepare reports related to job duties.
· Ability to work within project constraints, including time and materials.
· Perform related duties as required.
Educational Requirements
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
Knowledge, Abilities & Skill Requirements
· Ability to perform diagnostic troubleshooting and analysis.
· Ability to operate a computer.
· BICSI Certified Level 1 or greater preferred.
· Knowledge of terminating structured cabling systems according to TIA/EIA 568 and 569 standards.
· Knowledge of applicable building codes.
· Ability to climb ladders and lift heavy equipment.
· Knowledge of equipment and tools used in structured cabling.
· Basic plan-reading, basic math, and reading comprehension skills.
· Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with team members and clients.
