Description

At Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people's lives around the world today, and for generations to come. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work — and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.

Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Software Engineer – Embedded/Test Equipment - Level 3 to join our team in Chandler, AZ.

This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.

In this role, you will lead the design, development, integration, and startup of new Real-Time Computer-in-the-Loop (RTCIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) test laboratory capability supporting the Glide Phase Interceptor program. The primary emphasis is GPU-based real-time scene-generation development, followed by test-equipment architecture and lab integration, embedded C/C++ software development, and sustainment of laboratory capability. You will develop high-performance GPU programming solutions using CUDA; integrate embedded software, real-time test systems, and flight-like hardware; and support integration of 6-DoF models into real-time, test-as-you-fly environments.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Your Role and Impact:

  • Develop and integrate GPU-based real-time scene-generation software using CUDA, meeting real-time performance constraints for hardware-in-the-loop test environments.
  • Lead test-equipment hardware and software requirements planning, architecture development, detailed design, and integration/startup of RTCIL and HWIL laboratories.
  • Develop test-equipment hardware and software architectures supporting real-time distorted-scene and sensor-injection capability into flight-like hardware.
  • Develop, integrate, and maintain embedded software in C/C++ within Linux-based real-time test environments.
  • Integrate interfaces among test equipment, embedded software, simulation models, flight-like hardware, and weapon-system hardware as applicable.
  • Troubleshoot, sustain, and improve existing laboratory hardware, software, interfaces, performance, repeatability, and operational readiness.
  • Integrate existing 6-DoF simulation models into real-time test-as-you-fly environments; this role emphasizes model integration rather than originating all models from scratch.
  • Support requirements development, technical documentation, design reviews, and coordination with systems, software, hardware, simulation, and program stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned

This is a hands-on software and test-equipment development role focused on designing, building, integrating, and sustaining real-time embedded test capability. Strong candidates will bring practical experience developing embedded software and integrating real-time hardware and software systems in a laboratory, test, or operational environment. Experience focused primarily on executing test procedures, generating test cases, or producing test documentation, without embedded software development or real-time system integration experience, may not align as closely with the core responsibilities of this position.

This position is contingent upon the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 3 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 1 year of professional experience outside of internships, research, etc. Will consider an additional 4+ years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Requires an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope
  • Professional experience with RTCIL and/or HWIL laboratory integration, including real-time test-equipment development or integration.
  • Professional embedded software development experience using C/C++.
  • Professional GPU programming or development experience, including CUDA.
  • Experience integrating hardware, embedded software, and real-time test capability.
  • Ability to work 100% onsite in Chandler, Arizona.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Linux-based real-time test systems and object-oriented software design.
  • Experience integrating 6-DoF simulation models into real-time or test-as-you-fly environments.
  • Experience developing interfaces that support weapon-system integration efforts.
  • Experience with sensor simulation, IR scene injection, distorted-scene injection, or real-time embedded processing.
  • Experience supporting missile-defense, interceptor, aerospace, avionics, flight-software verification, flight-test, sensor-simulation, autonomy, or comparable real-time embedded-system programs.
  • Experience working in Agile, multidisciplinary teams and delivering incremental, test-driven value.
