The Opportunity
A Principal Engineer / Scientist position is available in Genentech and Roche’s Pharma Technical Development organization within the Cell Culture and Bioprocess Operations (CCBO) group.
Job Responsibilities:
Serve as a key team member in developing scalable, robust, efficient, and sustainable microbial (E. coli) processes for biologics production.
Represent the function on cross-functional project teams, collaborating with leads on all aspects of CMC project deliverables.
Stay informed on industry trends and advancements in microbial process technology.
Collaborate with representatives across research, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory functions.
Author sections of regulatory filings and prepare responses for Health Authority Q&A.
Serve as a functional ambassador to advocate for and influence stakeholders on new technology implementation.
Who you are
Requirements:
Advanced degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline, with a Master’s degree and 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Ph.D. with 4+ years of relevant experience in E. coli or other microbial process development.
Advanced technical experience supporting E. coli or other microbial process development, characterization, and validation activities.
Proven ability to work independently, challenge the status quo, manage multiple projects, prioritize and delegate effectively, adapt quickly to changes, and collaborate on cross-functional teams.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
Biopharma industry experience.
Experience developing and implementing models and leveraging AI-based tools for microbial process development and optimization.
Experience in microbial media development.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $120,800 - $224,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
