The Underground Geology Group has a major role in the success of PTFI as it continues to operate the mines and bring new mines in development and production; ensuring that the geological models and ore body knowledge underpinning the underground operations are reliable; that structural, lithological and mineralization controls are understood and communicated to design and operating teams; and, that the mines are supported by geological data and reconciliation to deliver the expected revenue stream. The work carried out by the group includes drilling and core logging, geological mapping, structural interpretation, 3D geological modelling, resource and reserve support, grade control and reconciliation, geometallurgical characterization, and integration of geological data with geotechnical, hydrology and cave performance evaluation.

- Core underground geological expertise and ore body knowledge across operating and developing mines, including KL’s transition from development to production.
- Reliable geological models, structural interpretation and domain definitions that underpin mine design, ground support and draw control in an operational environment
- Assist in the development of the Underground Geology group that provides key technical advice and support to the Grasberg Underground Operations.
- Geological interpretation, modelling and reconciliation for the GBC, DMLZ and Kucing Liar (KL) caving operations and for the Big Gossan stoping operation, all within PTFI’s Grasberg business unit.
