Before the detail, here's the challenge you'd help us solve.

We build the embodied intelligence that moves real vehicles safely, and the ecosystem a billion machines will run on in the future. Very few people in AI can say this. Every role here, whatever the team, plugs into that.

Here’s what this particular role covers.

🛠️ About our Fleet Operations Team

Our Fleet Operations Team is responsible for maintaining the safety, performance, and operational readiness of Wayve's autonomous vehicle fleet — from routine servicing and diagnostics to urgent repairs and vehicle readiness for high-visibility events. The team keeps our fleet in peak condition to support testing, demonstrations, and real-world deployment, working closely with engineering, drivers, and operations teams to keep autonomy moving forward, every single day.

🧠 Your day-to-day

Reporting to the Fleet Service Manager, this hands-on role requires strong mechanical knowledge, the ability to work with modern diagnostic systems, and a proactive, safety-conscious mindset.

  • Conduct Routine Maintenance & Servicing – Perform scheduled maintenance on a diverse fleet of AVs, ensuring reliability and safety across all vehicles.

  • Diagnose & Repair Technical Issues – Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic tools, working closely with engineering teams to resolve issues quickly.

  • Support High-Profile AV Readiness – Ensure vehicles are kept in excellent condition and ready for demos, investor rides, and media-facing events.

  • React to Fleet Faults in Real-Time – Respond to reports from drivers and fleet monitoring systems to address urgent repairs and get vehicles back on the road rapidly.

  • Work Collaboratively Across Functions – Liaise with Fleet Service Managers, drivers, and Field Engineering to resolve fleet issues and track recurring faults.

  • Follow Workshop Safety Protocols – Maintain high standards of health and safety in workshop environments, following proper procedures and compliance.

  • Contribute to Servicing Process Improvements – Share ideas for improving servicing workflows, fault reporting, and documentation practices.

  • Keep Accurate Records – Log all maintenance and repair activities using tracking tools, supporting compliance and trend analysis for continuous improvement.

  • Maintain Parts and Tools Readiness – Help manage toolkits, diagnostic devices, and parts inventory to ensure smooth daily operations.

  • Flexibility to Support 24/7 Operations – This is a shift-based role, supporting a rotating schedule to ensure 24/7 fleet readiness and coverage.

🧩 What you’ll be working on

  • Routine & Preventative Maintenance – Execute scheduled servicing and inspections per manufacturer and internal guidelines.

  • Mechanical & Electrical Fault Resolution – Diagnose and repair a wide range of issues using OEM documentation and advanced diagnostic equipment.

  • Vehicle Readiness for Demonstrations – Ensure vehicles meet high standards of cleanliness, reliability, and functionality for public-facing use.

  • Workshop Safety & Compliance – Adhere to safety best practices, risk assessments, and regulations.

  • Repair Documentation & Tracking – Accurately record faults found, actions taken, and parts used using digital tools.

  • Feedback into Fleet Performance – Communicate recurring issues or improvement ideas to the Fleet Service Manager and Field Engineering teams.

  • Customer-Facing Communication – Engage with fleet drivers to resolve issues they report and ensure a positive operational experience.

🙌 You should apply if

Essential:

  • You have relevant qualifications in automotive servicing, diagnostics and repairs, such as Level 2 Automotive Mechanic qualification (二級自動車整備士) in Japan.

  • You have proven experience as a Vehicle Technician in an automotive servicing or fleet environment.

  • You have strong diagnostics capability using OEM or third-party diagnostic equipment.

  • You're familiar with mechanical and bodywork repairs using OEM repair manuals.

  • You're competent with computer systems for tracking and recording maintenance tasks (e.g., Word, Excel).

  • You're comfortable interacting with engineers, operations staff, and drivers.

  • You have a strong understanding of workshop safety and compliance standards.

  • You hold a Japan Driving License for at least 5 years.

🌱 Not ticking every box? That’s totally okay! If you’re passionate about autonomy and keen to learn, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every requirement.

More about Wayve:

🚀 Wayve is building the leading AI platform for autonomous driving. We are pioneering an end to end AI approach that enables vehicles to learn directly from real world experience, developing the ability to adapt, generalise and improve at scale. Instead of relying on hand coded rules or pre mapped environments, our AI Driver learns to drive by understanding the world around it. The result is technology that navigates complex urban environments with intelligence, precision and natural flow, unlocking meaningful advances in both safety and efficiency. We believe autonomy represents a once in a generation transformation in how people and goods move, comparable to the shift from horses to cars, and from human driven vehicles to intelligent machines.

Our ambition is to make autonomy universal. Wayve’s mapless and hardware agnostic AI platform integrates with global OEM partners, enabling continuous software evolution and unlocking advanced levels of automation from L2 plus through to L4 as our core AI model scales. In a race increasingly defined by intelligence and real world learning, Wayve is taking a distinct approach, building a generalisable driving intelligence that can power any vehicle, anywhere. By combining embodied AI with scalable deployment, we are creating technology that can be shaped to each OEM brand and driver experience, accelerating the transition to a safer, more intelligent future of mobility.

A quick, honest note before you apply.

Wayve is not a mature, fully-structured place with the playbook already written. Much of how we work is still being written, and if you join, you’ll help write it. That suits people who want real ownership more than people who need a settled structure from day one.

If that sounds like the kind of problem you want to spend your time on, we’d really like to hear from you.
