Job Summary

THIS POST IS FIXED TERM FOR 36 MONTHS DUE TO FUNDING

The NHS in Wales is offering a salaried post-graduate training programme in Radiotherapy Physics for a high-calibre science graduate who is passionate about science and its role in patient care.

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with, and supported by the designated Training Coordinator/Officer, the Trainee Clinical Scientist will be responsible for their own progression through the training programme. This will include completing the learning outcomes outlined in the Association of Clinical Scientists (ACS) or Academy for Healthcare Scientists (AHCS) competencies matrices for the 'Route 2'/ 'STP Equivalence' pathways to Clinical Scientist registration through work-based activities. Clinical service contribution will be included in the role whilst the Trainee advances their skillset.

The main role of this post is to provide support to all aspects of the work, and undertake specialist clinical and scientific activities, within the Radiotherapy Physics Services. The post holder will undertake a broad range of tasks independently following training, contribute to improving the quality of Service and be required toprovide technical and scientific guidance for staff of other Directorates on interpretation of routine results and the assessment of the suitability of options. The post will provide the holder with continuing opportunities to progress within the field of Radiotherapy Physics. The post holder will at times be assigned to specific projects managed by a Clinical Scientist and will contribute to relevant research and development projects, prepare and present scientific reports. Research and development through guidance by Clinical Scientists is included in this post, accounting typically for around 10% of the time.

Post holders will also be expected to undertake mandatory training as deemed necessary by their host department.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
