The Opportunity

Peabody is seeking experienced Longwall Mechanical Fitters to join our longwall crews at Centurion Mine, located approximately 160 kilometres west of Mackay.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of one of Australia's newest longwall operations, working hands-on with state-of-the-art equipment and supporting the safe, reliable and efficient performance of Centurion's longwall mining operation.

Your Impact

You'll be responsible for:

• Performing inspections, maintenance, repairs and overhauls on longwall equipment, including shearers, AFCs, BSLs and hydraulic roof supports.
• Maintaining and troubleshooting complex hydraulic systems.
• Diagnosing mechanical faults and implementing practical solutions to minimise equipment downtime.
• Supporting longwall installation, maintenance and panel move activities.
• Working closely with electricians, engineers, operators and the wider maintenance team to support safe and reliable equipment performance.
• Maintaining service records and accurately recording equipment issues and repairs for maintenance history and compliance.
• Supporting preventative and planned maintenance activities across the longwall system.
• Ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements and all Peabody and Centurion site policies and procedures.
• Contributing to a strong safety culture through proactive risk management, hazard identification and continuous improvement.

About You

You are an experienced, safety-focused Mechanical Fitter who takes pride in maintaining high-performing underground equipment and working collaboratively as part of a strong longwall team.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Australian recognised Mechanical Trade Certificate.
• Proven mechanical experience with longwall systems in an underground coal mine.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and a solution-focused approach to fault finding and repairs.
• Experience maintaining and repairing longwall equipment including shearers, AFCs, BSLs and hydraulic roof supports.
• Sound knowledge of hydraulic systems and underground mechanical equipment.
• Ability to work safely in confined spaces and challenging underground environments.
• Strong understanding of risk management and hazard identification.
• Commitment to maintaining and promoting a safe workplace.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Flexible, proactive and can-do approach to work.
