Position Purpose Cactus Vet Clinic is a community-focused mixed animal practice located in the rural town of St. Jo, Texas. The clinic has a long history of serving local families, ranchers, and livestock producers, providing care for both companion animals and large animals with a strong equine component. We're looking for a veterinarian who enjoys the relationships that come with rural practice. Position Highlights - Full-time or part-time opportunities available - Mixed animal caseload with strong equine potential - Opportunity to become a trusted veterinarian within the local community - Collaborative support from an experienced team while maintaining autonomy in day-to-day practice - Opportunity to help grow and shape a well-established rural practice About St. Jo, Texas Nestled in the North Texas Hill Country near the Oklahoma border, St. Jo is known for its rich ranching heritage, scenic countryside, and welcoming small-town atmosphere. Home to just under 1,000 residents, the community offers a relaxed rural lifestyle while remaining within driving distance of larger cities such as the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. With local wineries, historic downtown shops, outdoor recreation, and a strong agricultural community, St. Jo is an ideal place for veterinarians who appreciate country living and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community. Essential Responsibilities Examine and treat companion animals to detect and determine the nature of disease or injuries. Operate diagnostic equipment and collect diagnostic samples as well as interpret results. Advise pet owners on preventative care and treatment options. Perform surgery and prescribe medication as needed. Provide counsel around pet end of life care. Maintain patients’ medical records. Ensures compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statues, policies, and procedures. Requirements/Qualifications DVM/VMD degree from an accredited AVMA institution. Appropriate state licensure. Eligibility to obtain DEA/BNDD. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates professional and courteous presentation consistently with staff and clients. Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance.
