Location: Dallas, TX — This is an onsite leadership opportunity, with full relocation assistance provided.

Team Leadership: Directly leads four key finance and operational roles: Billing Manager & Systems Administrator, Fleet Manager, Financial Analyst, and Accounting Manager.

About the Opportunity:

The VP of Finance will serve as a key member of the CBSS leadership team, providing strategic financial leadership and hands-on oversight of the division’s finance operations. Partnering closely with the Division President, this leader will play a critical role in driving growth, profitability, and cash flow, while identifying opportunities to strengthen performance through continuous process and organizational improvement.

The VP of Finance will oversee financial reporting and analysis, project profitability, cash management, general ledger, inventory, and payroll across all CBSS locations. The position reports to the SVP Finance, Accounting & IT of the parent company, with a strong dotted-line relationship to the President of CBSS.

We are seeking a results-oriented finance leader with strong business judgment, critical thinking skills, and a track record of turning financial insights into action. The ideal candidate will thrive in a complex, fast-paced environment and bring proven accounting and financial leadership experience.

CBSS operates a diverse business spanning industrial equipment and parts sales, installation, service, rentals, and limited manufacturing. Projects range from single-day service calls to complex, multi-month installations and rebuilds—creating an opportunity for this leader to make a meaningful impact on project profitability, operational performance, and business growth.

Essential Duties:

  • Create, coordinate, and evaluate the financial and business programs and supporting information systems of the division including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, project management, and management of assets.
  • Provide the Division President accurate and complete information needed to understand and manage business performance in a timely manner.
  • In conjunction with the business and IT leadership, review, recommend, and coordinate changes and improvements in automated financial and business information systems for the division.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards.
  • Manage the financial team in the processing of a broad variety of transactions ranging from small, rapid, daily invoicing to large, multi-million dollar projects requiring POC accounting.
  • Recruit, develop & leverage financial expertise to deliver continuous improvement in terms of finance process efficiency & effectiveness, controls environment, sales, profit & operating margin.
  • In conjunction with the Division President, develop and direct the implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs, and systems.
  • Maintain close contact with the Division President and local operation leaders to assist with financial expertise and communicate requirements.
  • Ensure that working capital, cash, productivity, quality measures and defined KPI’s are adequately reported and controlled to achieve plan levels and in accordance with division requirements. Implement a process of performance improvement metrics in all businesses.
  • Interact with other managers to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports, and recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with local and state financial, tax, etc. reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate the timely preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and information reports. Ensure accurate, timely reporting of division financial information – budgets, forecasts, monthly results and flash reports. Identify key issues and propose actions thereon to meet division objectives.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures and establish forecast measures that provide business insights to the business leadership.
  • Oversee the approval and processing of revenue, expenditure, and position control documents, department budgets, salary updates, ledger, and account maintenance and data entry.
  • Ensure records systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted standards and tax requirements.
  • Assist in obtaining the necessary licenses and insurance required to operate a sales and service business.
  • Serve as a backup to the Division President during staff and operations meetings, etc.
  • Support SVP Finance, Accounting & IT with financial expertise and project leadership.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate department staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills Requirements:

  • Finance and accounting experience in a heavy-duty industrial sales and service business, with multiple-locations in multiple states, some limited international exposure.
  • Experience with job-cost accounting, including percentage of completion accounting.
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution.
  • Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems, ideally deep experience with Great Plains.
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations (Texas, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Kansas, and New Mexico).
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
  • Strong professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule and demonstrated ability to work stress resistant even under ongoing requirements of fulfilling critical deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and implement programs to reduce working capital for a similarly-sized business.
  • Ability to influence and participate as part of the division management team and to serve as an innovative sounding board for other members of the team.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical capability to understand the inter-relationships between sales, operating and cost data, and balance sheet to identify operational problems, and to analyze variances from planned results.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork, highly adaptive.
  • Integrity; committee to the highest ethical standards.
  • Will to drive change even in cases being faced with obstacles.

Education and Certifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
  • MS or MBA strongly preferred
  • CPA/CMA strongly preferred

Experience:

Minimum of ten years of experience in a senior-level finance position; minimum of five years experience working within a business that sells and services heavy-duty industrial or similar equipment and with locations across multiple states required.

Travel: 25%; mostly regional travel.

Working Conditions: Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
