About The Role And Where You Will Be Working

Yimamulinbinkaan Aboriginal Mental Health Service (YAMHS) has three Allied Health Undergraduate Clinician positions available across adult and child and adolescent mental health.

Delivered by Mob, for Mob, YAMHS provides culturally responsive mental health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with a focus on culture, connection, healing and social and emotional wellbeing.

Earn while you learn through a three-year Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) with Charles Sturt University’s Djirruwang Program. Gain hands-on experience, clinical supervision and cultural mentorship while building a rewarding career in Aboriginal mental health.

You must be accepted into the university program before a traineeship offer can be made.

Join a supportive, multidisciplinary team where culture and community come first.

You’ll gain supervised experience across mental health settings, including community services, emergency departments and inpatient units, working alongside experienced clinicians and fellow trainees.

With dedicated study time, university intensives and ongoing mentoring, you’ll develop your skills while helping improve mental health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Grow your skills. Strengthen your culture. Make a difference.

Contract renewal each semester is subject to satisfactory completion of university, clinical placement and workplace requirements.

About You

You’re passionate about mental health, eager to learn and committed to improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You value culture, community and the importance of culturally safe, inclusive and respectful care.

With a positive attitude and a collaborative approach, you’ll embrace cultural knowledge, respect diversity and contribute to a workplace where everyone feels valued, connected and supported.

You’ll join a supportive team led by an Aboriginal Service Manager, working alongside experienced clinicians, cultural mentors and fellow trainees who are committed to helping you learn and grow.

Through comprehensive orientation, ongoing clinical and cultural supervision, and mentoring, you’ll build your skills, confidence and cultural practice. The Gayaa Dhuwi (Proud Spirit) framework supports reflection and professional development, with four hours of paid leave each month for supervision, which can be banked as 12 hours every three months.

You’ll also have opportunities to attend Aboriginal mental health forums, strengthen community connections and learn from experienced professionals.

YAMHS is committed to cultural safety, inclusion and belonging, fostering a respectful workplace that celebrates cultural knowledge and builds strong partnerships with Aboriginal communities and organisations.

Bring your passion, grow your skills and help make a difference for Mob in a workplace where culture comes first.
