Job Description This is a remote position. Job Summary The Academic Counselor works directly with students to assess their academic strengths, challenges, and goals, and to design personalized learning strategies that support academic growth and success. The role combines academic guidance, learning skills coaching, and progress monitoring to help students overcome obstacles, build confidence, and achieve their educational objectives. Key Responsibilities • Conduct one-on-one and group counseling sessions to assess students' academic needs, learning styles, and goals • Develop individualized academic improvement plans, including study strategies, time management, and organizational skills • Know and effectively use One Academy resources to support student development, guiding students and parents on how to leverage tutoring, extra class programmes, and self-paced content to close skills gaps and reach specified learning goals • Administer or interpret skills gap assessments to identify areas needing intervention and map students to the right One Academy resources • Monitor student progress through regular check-ins, assessments, and performance reviews. • Identify learning gaps or challenges (e.g., attention, motivation, study habits) and recommend appropriate interventions or resources. • Collaborate with teachers, parents/guardians, and other staff to align academic support strategies. • Work directly with parents to explain available resources and recommend a clear path (tutoring, extra classes, self-paced modules) toward closing their child's skills gaps • Guide students in course selection, academic planning, and goal-setting • Provide guidance on exam preparation, study techniques, and academic resilience • Maintain accurate records of student interactions, progress notes, and outcomes • Refer students to additional support services (tutoring, special education, mental health resources) as needed • Facilitate monthly workshops to address group learning needs and reinforce academic strategies across a cohort of students • Stay current on best practices in learning strategies, educational psychology, and academic coaching. Core Competencies • Empathy and active listening • Problem-solving and strategic planning • Patience and adaptability • Strong written and verbal communication • Confidentiality and professionalism Work Environment • Hybrid, predominantly remote • Regular interaction with students, parents, and academic staff • Delivers instruction, counseling, and assessment through online tools/platforms • Contractor is expected to supply and maintain a functional laptop and the tools/equipment needed for remote work (e.g., stable internet connection, webcam, headset) Requirements Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, or related field • Prior experience in academic counseling, tutoring, teaching, or student support services • Strong understanding of learning strategies, study skills, and educational assessment • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills • Ability to build rapport and trust with students of varying ages and backgrounds • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail • Proficiency with student information systems or case management tools • Working knowledge of One Academy (or willingness to be trained), including its tutoring, extra class programmes, self-paced content, and skills gap assessment tools • Proficient in online tools for instruction and assessment (e.g., video conferencing platforms, learning management systems, digital assessment tools) • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed for one-on-one student sessions • Must have a functional laptop and reliable internet/equipment to support remote work participation.
