Account Manager | Performance Marketing

R17 Ventures | Hybrid | Cape Town, South Africa | Full-Time

Your Future Role

R17 Ventures is looking for an Account Manager with a strong performance marketing background to work on some of our largest and most important client accounts. You will be the main point of contact for these clients, taking ownership of the relationship, guiding strategy, and ensuring work moves forward across the team. From presenting performance insights and managing expectations to coordinating projects and resolving challenges, you will connect the client’s commercial goals with what the team delivers.

This role requires more than strong relationship management. You need hands-on experience in performance marketing to assess recommendations, challenge assumptions, troubleshoot performance, and guide clients with confidence. You will work with a team responsible for execution, delegating clearly and holding people accountable for quality and deadlines. You should also be comfortable stepping into campaign execution when your expertise or the account requires it.

About R17 Ventures

R17 Ventures is a performance marketing agency working with clients across the globe. We help e-commerce, SaaS, and service-based businesses grow across B2C and B2B markets. Our expertise spans customer acquisition and lead generation, combining paid media, creative strategy, content production, tracking and data, and website and landing-page development. Our cross-functional pods bring these capabilities together to deliver measurable and sustainable growth for our clients. Our values are passion, transparency, individuality, and solution-driven entrepreneurial thinking.

How You’ll Succeed in This Role

  • You build client confidence: You communicate clearly, think on your feet, and handle difficult conversations calmly.
  • You turn conversations into action: You translate client goals and feedback into clear priorities, briefs, owners, and deadlines.
  • You understand performance marketing: You can assess campaign performance, question recommendations, and explain what needs to change and why.
  • You keep work moving: You manage competing priorities, spot blockers early, and follow through on commitments.
  • You delegate effectively: You give your team clear direction and support while holding them accountable for delivery.
  • You think commercially: You connect marketing decisions to revenue, lead quality, customer acquisition costs, and profitability.
  • You give honest advice: You confidently challenge requests or expectations when the data, budget, or scope calls for it.

Key Responsibilities

Client Ownership & Commercial Guidance

  • Own the day-to-day relationships with key clients, building trust and understanding their business goals.
  • Lead client meetings, strategic reviews, and performance presentations with clear recommendations and next steps.
  • Manage expectations around performance, timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Proactively communicate progress, challenges, and proposed solutions.
  • Guide commercial conversations around budget allocation, growth opportunities, and additional services where relevant.
  • Identify and address concerns early, involving the right people when support or escalation is needed.

Project Management & Team Coordination

  • Translate agreed strategies and client requests into clear briefs, tasks, timelines, and responsibilities.
  • Coordinate delivery across performance marketing, creative, tracking and analytics, CRO, and development teams.
  • Delegate execution to the appropriate team members and monitor progress against agreed deadlines.
  • Manage dependencies, approvals, and competing priorities across accounts.
  • Review work before it reaches the client to ensure it meets the brief and quality standards.
  • Keep account plans, project updates, and decisions documented and accessible.
  • Identify requests outside the agreed scope and coordinate realistic timelines and pricing before committing to delivery.

Performance Strategy & Technical Oversight

  • Guide paid media strategy across Meta Ads, Google Ads, and LinkedIn Ads, supported by the execution team.
  • Review results and identify opportunities across campaigns, creative, landing pages, conversion tracking, and lead quality.
  • Work with specialists to develop testing plans, forecasts, and budget recommendations.
  • Ensure reporting connects campaign performance to the client’s commercial objectives.
  • Oversee campaign quality and tracking standards, coordinating specialist support where needed.
  • Step into campaign setup, optimisation, or troubleshooting when required.

Team Development & Collaboration

  • Support colleagues through strategic account reviews, feedback, and troubleshooting.
  • Share relevant platform developments and their implications for client accounts.
  • Contribute to playbooks, SOPs, and improvements in how we manage clients and deliver work.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of account management experience, including substantial hands-on campaign management.
  • Proven experience managing senior client stakeholders and leading client relationships.
  • Strong practical expertise in Meta Ads and Google Ads, with working knowledge of LinkedIn Ads.
  • Experience coordinating projects across multiple teams, managing deadlines, and delegating execution.
  • A track record of delivering measurable results for e-commerce and/or lead-generation accounts.
  • Confidence interpreting GA4, conversion reporting, attribution, and commercial performance metrics.
  • An understanding of conversion tracking, including Meta Pixel, Conversions API, Enhanced Conversions, and GTM.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical topics in clear business terms.
  • Sound judgement when balancing client requests, team capacity, account priorities, and commercial goals.

Advantageous

  • Experience managing large or complex accounts within an agency.
  • Experience across both e-commerce and lead generation.
  • Experience working in international or multilingual markets, particularly DACH/EU, UK, or US.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems, offline conversion tracking, and lead-quality reporting.
  • Experience mentoring colleagues or leading a cross-functional team.

Growth, Mentorship & Leadership

You will have opportunities to develop your commercial and leadership skills while helping others grow.

  • Advanced upskilling and coaching: Exposure to complex international accounts, performance forecasting and commercial strategy.
  • Knowledge sharing and leadership: Opportunities to lead internal training, run account reviews, and mentor team members.
  • International exposure: Work with clients across global markets, supported by annual education and upskilling funding.
  • Career progression: Progression based on competency, team development, and client impact, rather than tenure.

What We Offer

  • A competitive, market-related base salary with performance-based bonuses and upsell commission opportunities.
  • A structured hybrid model: in-office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and remote on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Flexitime: choose between 06:00–15:00, 07:00–16:00, 08:00–17:00, 09:00–18:00, or 10:00–19:00.
  • A premium office at the V&A Waterfront with some of the best views in Cape Town, plus company-paid on-site parking.
  • Healthcare support, including a 50% contribution toward Discovery Medical Aid and Vitality for the main member.
  • 25 days of leave, with dedicated quarterly mental health days and birthday leave.
  • Annual education and upskilling support.
  • Team socials, including Friday socials, padel, quiz nights, and sunset yacht cruises.
  • Annual long-service rewards.
