Do you have substantial, hands-on experience using and administering Unanet GovCon, along with broad, full-cycle accounting experience in a government contracting environment? Can you move confidently among accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, project accounting and financial management, and accounting system administration?

Avid Core is seeking an Accounting Specialist with deep Unanet GovCon expertise and broad accounting knowledge to support and help manage the company's financial operations. This role requires an understanding of how transactions, controls, projects, and financial data flow through the full accounting cycle. The successful candidate must be able to perform detailed accounting work while also managing Unanet GovCon, project financials, and compliance at a high level.

To Apply: Submit resumes and cover letters through this posting. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered.

Candidates from all backgrounds are welcome to apply for our open positions and to join our bench of talented professionals.

Salary Range: $75,000 - $100,000, based on experience and qualifications.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary functional owner and day-to-day administrator of Unanet GovCon, including system configuration, master data, user access, workflows, reporting, and data integrity
  • Manage the full accounting cycle, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, customer billing, cash activity, general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close
  • Manage and reconcile payroll accounting, labor distribution, leave, and related entries, coordinating with Human Resources and payroll providers as needed
  • Manage project accounting and financial setup in Unanet GovCon, including contracts, projects, funding, budgets, billing structures, labor and cost tracking, revenue recognition, and project closeout
  • Prepare and review customer invoices across contract types, reconcile billed and unbilled amounts, monitor receivables, and support collection activities
  • Monitor project financial performance, including budgets, actual costs, burn rates, funding, revenue, and profitability, and provide project managers with timely financial information
  • Maintain indirect cost pools and allocation structures, support the development and monitoring of indirect rates, and ensure costs are recorded consistently
  • Ensure accounting practices and records support GAAP, DCAA, FAR, Cost Accounting Standards, and other applicable federal contracting requirements
  • Prepare recurring financial reports and ad hoc analyses for management, and identify issues that require correction or follow-up
  • Improve accounting processes and system controls, troubleshoot data and configuration issues, document procedures, and support internal and external audits
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience with broad, full-cycle responsibilities, preferably in government contracting or a related field
  • Substantial, hands-on experience using and administering Unanet GovCon is required; experience with other ERP systems alone will not satisfy this requirement
  • Demonstrated ability to manage Unanet GovCon at a high level, including project and account setup, billing and revenue processes, indirect rate structures, reporting, workflows, controls, and data integrity
  • Demonstrated experience across accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, general ledger accounting, close and reconciliations, project accounting and financial management; experience primarily limited to one accounting function will not meet the breadth required for this role
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, accrual accounting, internal controls, and the relationships among subsidiary records, the general ledger, project records, and financial statements
  • Working knowledge of government contract accounting, DCAA requirements, FAR, Cost Accounting Standards, indirect cost allocation, and federal contract billing
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience producing accurate financial reports and analyses from accounting system data
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the judgment and attention to detail needed to manage multiple deadlines

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Comfortable working at both the transaction level and the accounting system, project, and reporting level
  • Able to understand and explain how activity in Unanet GovCon affects billing, payroll and labor distribution, projects, the general ledger, indirect rates, and financial reporting
  • Skilled at tracing discrepancies to their source and correcting the related transaction, process, control, or system configuration
  • Able to balance recurring accounting deadlines with project needs and unexpected issues
  • Capable of working independently while partnering effectively with Human Resources, project managers, company leadership, and external service providers
  • Professional and confident when communicating financial information, requirements, and concerns to internal stakeholders
  • Reliable, responsive, accountable, and willing to take ownership of work through resolution

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.

Benefits:

  • Comprehensive health insurance
  • Vision, dental, and short-term and long-term disability
  • 401K with employer match (after six months of employment)
  • Federal and non-federal paid holidays
  • Flexible paid time off
  • Generous bonus program based on firm and individual performance
  • An opportunity to learn and grow in an inclusive and supportive environment with a fun team

Location:

The position is based in Washington, D.C. Candidates may be expected to work a hybrid schedule with time both on-site and remote.

Candidates will be provided with a computer; however, they must have a steady internet connection.
