ABOUT THE ROLE

The BSc Software Engineering programme is a three-year degree programme with the aim of developing Software Engineering graduates at scale who are well prepared to leverage technology as the first hand solution to solve relevant problems in the continent and beyond and also who are ready to meet the needs of employers globally. This innovative and scalable programme prepares graduates not only with relevant technical skills but also problem solving and leadership skills missing in our tech graduates and promotes learning with a purpose.

The role of the Adjunct Curriculum Designer entails the responsibility to successfully design, refine and validate the existing learning components of the programme adhering to the principles of our ALU’s Learning Model and support the periodic review process with a set project plan and key milestones. The candidate will contribute to academic expertise, industry insight, and curriculum design experience to strengthen programme quality, graduate employability and long term programme relevance and work with programme leadership, programme development committee and other key stakeholders during the review process.

Job Description:

• Review, refine, design and validate the current learning curriculum of the Software Engineering programmes with documentation and with key attention to details outlined in the respective Project Plan and timelines
• Conduct a comprehensive curriculum gap analysis against global Software Engineering education standards, industry requirements and emerging technology trends
• Review programme learning outcomes, graduate attributes, course sequencing, assessments and competency frameworks and recommend enhancements where required.
• Ensure curriculum alignment with current and emerging domains including Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, Software Architecture, Secure Software Development, Product Engineering and other relevant technology fields
• Benchmark the programme against leading international Software Engineering and Computing degree programmes and recommend improvements
• Review and update course specifications, learning outcomes, assessment strategies, practical learning activities and programme documentation
• Collaborate with academic leadership, faculty learning designers and industry stakeholders to validate curriculum recommendations and proposed programme changes
• Ensure programme content reflects current industry practices, future workforce needs and technological advancements
• Support quality assurance, accreditation and periodic programme review requirements through documentation and evidence based recommendations
• Participate in curriculum review workshops, stakeholder consultations and validation sessions
• Provide periodic progress updates against agreed project milestones and deliverables.
• Contribute to the review and update of programme handbooks, curriculum guides and other academic documentation
• Support the Programme Manager in implementing approved curriculum enhancements and recommendations
• Undertake any other reasonable duties related to the successful completion of the curriculum review and redesign project.
• Any other reasonable duties that may be allocated from time to time by the line manager.

Person Specification:

Essential

• Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing or a closely related discipline and equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 7 years experience in academia, industry or a combination of both within Software Engineering and related computing disciplines
• Demonstrated experience in designing, reviewing, developing or revising undergraduate degree programmes or curricula in Computing, Software Engineering or related disciplines
• Strong expertise in Software Engineering principles, software development methodologies and modern software delivery practices
• Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following domains:
• Cybersecurity
• Cloud Computing (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
• Software Architecture and Distributed Systems
• Secure Software Development
• Generative AI and AI Engineering
• Product Engineering
• Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
• Data Engineering and Analytics
• DevOps and Platform Engineering
• Full-Stack Software Development
• Experience aligning academic curricula with industry requirements, future skills frameworks and workforce trends
• Experience designing programme learning outcomes, competency frameworks and assessment strategies
• Experience conducting curriculum mapping, programme reviews and academic quality assurance activities
• Experience designing experiential and project-based learning activities that promote collaboration, innovation and real-world problem solving
• Experience reviewing or designing undergraduate capstone projects and work-integrated learning experiences
• Experience with online, blended or technology enabled learning environments.

Desirable

• PhD in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence or a related discipline
• Experience leading curriculum transformation, accreditation reviews or programme modernization initiatives
• Experience with international curriculum frameworks such as ACM, IEEE, ABET, CDIO or SFIA.
• Experience in instructional design, learning design or digital pedagogy
• Experience working with technology companies, professional bodies, startup ecosystems, incubators or innovation hubs
• Strong regional or international professional network within academia and the technology industry
