NeatDevs LLC is a small federal subcontractor with a long-running seat on a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program in Ashburn, VA. We are hiring a mid-level AI/ML Engineer to build GenAI features and AI-enabled applications (RAG, prompt workflows, model API integrations) on AI/ML prototyping teams supporting a mission-critical DHS/CBP program. U.S. citizenship is required (federal contract); you must be able to obtain a DHS/CBP Public Trust - an active or recent clearance shortens your start date but is not a gate. Hybrid: on-site in Ashburn, VA about one day per week, remote the rest.
What you'll do
- Build GenAI features: RAG pipelines, prompt-driven workflows, tool/function calling against LLM APIs
- Develop application code integrating models into web applications and services
- Write and run evaluations of model outputs for quality and reliability
- Work with SQL and NoSQL databases and RESTful APIs
- Participate fully in Agile ceremonies on a fast-moving prototyping team
Required
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a DHS/CBP Public Trust; must live in the DC/MD/VA area
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Computer Science or related field
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, including hands-on LLM or ML application work
- Strong Python; working JavaScript/TypeScript or Java
- Experience with LLM APIs, prompt engineering, and embeddings/RAG
Nice to have
- Google Gemini / Vertex AI; agent frameworks (ADK, LangChain)
- Angular or React front-end experience
- Docker, GitLab CI/CD, AWS or GCP
Pay and benefits
$102,000 - $117,000 per year depending on experience and clearance status. Full-time W-2 role with health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, 401(k), paid time off, and paid federal holidays.
