Assistant Director of Finance

Assist the Area Director of Finance in overseeing Finance operations and financial reporting across multiple properties in a remote environment. Partner with Finance, Operations, property leadership, and Corporate Finance to ensure accurate, timely reporting and compliance with company standards.
Essential Functions
- Manage and develop the Finance team, including Accounting Managers and Staff Accountants, through training, performance management, team member relations, and ongoing support.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close across assigned properties, including reconciliations, supporting documentation, financial statement review, and adherence to reporting deadlines.
- Review ledger reconciliations, financial statements, and account activity for accuracy; investigate significant variances or unusual transactions and coordinate resolution with Finance and property teams.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning across assigned properties, including P&L reviews, variance analysis, and monitoring financial performance against budget and forecast.
- Assist the Director of Finance with cash controls, internal audits, capital budget monitoring, and weekly and monthly financial reporting.
- Review tax support, utility accruals, inventory records, cash receipts, and other accounting activity to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Maintain effective internal controls and compliance with company accounting, billing, and credit policies, including appropriate documentation and audit readiness.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, efficiency, and consistency across properties.
- Partner with property operations, Finance leadership, and other corporate departments to resolve accounting matters and support accurate and timely financial reporting
Supportive Functions
- Provide hands-on support during month-end and year-end close as needed.
- Perform special projects and other Finance-related duties as assigned.
- Review payroll records and payroll-related account activity as needed.
Other Requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a remote accounting team across multiple properties.
- Strong financial analysis skills, including financial statements, forecasts, projections, and variance analysis.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, internal controls, and audit support.
- Proficiency with accounting/ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with property and corporate teams.
- Knowledge of the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI).
- Previous hotel or hospitality accounting experience preferred.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Relevant accounting and finance experience, including month-end close, financial reporting, and reconciliations, required.
- Multi-property or multi-entity accounting experience preferred.
- Previous accounting team leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
