Become a Benefits Senior Specialist at Southern California Edison (SCE) and help deliver benefit programs that support the well-being, financial security, and overall employee experience of our workforce. In this role, you will serve as a subject matter expert for health, welfare, and retirement programs, partnering with vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and exceptional participant service. You will support complex benefits initiatives and governance processes, manage key vendor relationships, and help drive critical projects such as Annual Enrollment while contributing to programs that make a meaningful difference in employees’ lives.

Responsibilities

  • Research, respond and resolves elevated and complex participant service-related issues including responding to formal ERISA claims and prepares appeal case documentation for the Benefits Committee.
  • Participates and/or lead the reviews of various benefit communications including summary plan documents.
  • Assist in translating and interpreting Plan document provisions into business requirement documents for out-sourced vendor.
  • Remains abreast of legislative changes and industry best practices to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations related to benefits.
  • Participates in benefit surveys, monitors and analyzes results. Determines if benchmark designs and approaches should be recommended to management.
  • Responsible for annual health and welfare compliance activities including required government reporting (PCORI, NY HCRA and SF Health Care Security Ordinance) and managing of annual and off-cycle HIPAA certification and training.
  • Responsible for the management of several vendor relationships including contracts to understand terms, conditions, and renewal dates, holding vendor accountable for service delivery and providing budget figures.
  • Serve as co-lead for the annual enrollment project including business requirement documentation review/update and system testing with outsourced vendor.
  • Assists in managing the outsourced vendor by participating in ongoing calls, call calibrations, SOW reviews and scorecard evaluations.
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience in benefits administration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience administering health and welfare and/or retirement benefit programs.
  • Knowledge of ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, and other applicable benefits regulations.
  • Experience responding to complex benefits inquiries, claims, and appeals.
  • Experience managing third-party vendor relationships and service delivery performance.
  • Experience supporting annual enrollment planning, implementation, and testing activities.
  • Experience reviewing benefit communications, summary plan descriptions (SPDs), and employee-facing materials.
  • Analytical, project support, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience interpreting plan documents and translating business requirements for benefits administration systems and vendors.

Additional Information

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
