POSITION SUMMARY
The BI Engineer builds and maintains the data foundation underneath every dashboard, KPI, and analytics product Sourcepass runs on, along with the back-end systems our automation and AI solutions depend on. This role owns the hands-on engineering of the BI stack (the data lake, the pipelines that feed it from source systems, and the SQL layer that powers front-end dashboards) and plays a lead role in modernizing the Sourcepass BI platform. Working alongside the BI Manager, AI Engineer, and RPA Developers in the ROC, the BI Engineer also builds the integrations and data services that let our automations and AI agents work from the same trusted source of operational truth.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designs, builds, and maintains the pipelines and data models that move data from source systems (ConnectWise PSA, NetSuite, HubSpot, and others) into the data lake and SQL layer.
- Leads the technical work to modernize the Sourcepass BI platform, including evaluating architecture options, planning the migration, and retiring legacy pipelines.
- Partners with the BI Manager and business leaders to translate reporting and analytics needs into data models, freshness targets, and quality checks.
- Monitors pipeline health and data quality, resolves data issues, and keeps the SQL layer the authoritative source for front-end dashboards.
- Builds and supports back-end integrations, APIs, and data services used by the team's automation workflows and AI agents.
- Supports data migration and system integration for acquired companies, mapping legacy systems and data into Sourcepass platforms.
- Documents data sources, models, and pipelines so the platform stays supportable and auditable by the wider team.
SUCCESS METRICS / EXPERIENCE
What does success look like in this role? (KPIs, outcomes, behaviors)
- Front-end dashboards and downstream analytics run on data the BI team and business leaders trust; stale, missing, or incorrect data is rare and resolved quickly.
- The BI platform modernization delivers against its committed milestones, with legacy pipelines retired as replacements go live.
- Pipeline health and SQL-layer SLAs (freshness, completeness, uptime) consistently meet the standards committed to downstream consumers.
- Data platform coverage grows over time: more source systems integrated and more automation and AI use cases powered by shared data services.
- Pipelines, models, and integrations are documented well enough that teammates can support them without a single point of failure.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must-have requirements to perform the role effectively
- 3+ years of experience in data engineering, BI engineering, or back-end systems development.
- Strong SQL skills, including writing, optimizing, and validating queries against operational data.
- Hands-on experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and data models for a data warehouse or data lake.
- Experience integrating systems through REST APIs, including authentication, pagination, and error handling.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, PowerShell, or similar).
- Ability to explain technical work clearly to both engineers and business stakeholders.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Nice-to-have skills or experience that would strengthen performance
- Experience in the MSP, IT services, or professional services industry.
- Familiarity with ConnectWise PSA, NetSuite, HubSpot, or similar business systems as data sources.
- Experience with Microsoft data and cloud tools (Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, Power BI) or comparable platforms.
- Experience with workflow automation platforms such as Rewst or Power Automate.
- Exposure to AI and LLM-based solutions, such as building data sources or tools for AI agents.
- Experience migrating data or consolidating systems after a merger or acquisition.
