Description POSITION OVERVIEW: The Intake Specialist (IS) will support the efforts of the Centralized Intake Program Throughout the five boroughs. The Centralized Intake Program resides in the Justice Initiatives (JI) department to standardize our intake process for the JI programs and create a trauma-informed process for participants. The IS responsible for providing comprehensive intake, risk assessment, and screening for the Justice Initiative programs with particular focus on outreach and intake within our Domestic Violence (DV) and Homeless Family shelters located in NYC. This role serves as the first point of contact for clients, ensuring timely access to appropriate programs and resources while promoting engagement in URI's services. They will provide additional support to the Legal Education and Advocacy Program (LEAP), the Economic Empowerment Program (EEP), Abusive Partner Intervention Program (APIP) and the People and Animals Living Safely program (PALS) as needed. Outreach and intakes will be done with potential participants that are currently residing in shelter or residing in the community, on each program’s need. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct universal intake along with risk assessments, screenings, supplemental intakes and provide referrals and resource coordination in a client-centered and trauma-informed way to support potential participant’s needs and their goals for participating in the program. Schedule initial interviews, either in person or by phone directly with the participant. Evaluate participant’s information against program eligibility guidelines to determine if they are eligible for services. Collaborate with the teams to ensure continuity of services across programs. Participate in community outreach events, networking opportunities, and partnership meetings to increase program awareness and client engagement. Provide outreach and informational sessions to service providers and potential participants including at the FJCs and URI shelters sites. Work closely with NYC-based non-profits and community organizations to create new partnerships for referrals and to support as many survivors and participants in accessing services as possible. Meet weekly with Manager for supervision and perform other duties assigned by the Program Manager. Collaborate closely with other Justice Initiative program leaders and staff along with other Program’s divisions within URI. Input & maintain accurate data collection in a timely fashion. Collaborate in providing accurate data reporting to funders and city organizations. Support program leaders in any reports for funders. Other: Stay up to date with innovations in the field. Participate in regular staff meetings and in training. Attend coalitions, taskforces, working groups and committees. Other duties as requested, based on department, program, and/or organizational needs. SPECIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related human services field with at least 1 year of experience. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. 1 year working with survivors of domestic or gender-based violence or trafficking survivors. Commitment to the vision and mission of Urban Resource Institute. Demonstrated passion and commitment to public interest and an understanding of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally responsive services. Have a strong understanding of the safety needs of survivors of violence. Familiar with NYC public benefits and shelter systems. Deeply understand strength-based and survivor-centered approaches. Strong writing and public speaking skills with an ability to manage and organize multiple projects in a busy, pressured working environment. Experience collaborating across programs and external sectors. Demonstrate sensitivity and experience with and/or knowledge of domestic violence within and against disenfranchised communities including individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and/or HIV-affected, the elderly and individuals with mental health issues. Demonstrate trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approach when working with survivors of domestic and gender-based violence. Highly motivated, with the ability to work independently and in a team, assess priorities, take initiative, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines. Must be able to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and cope with stress and crises in a calm manner. Must be able to travel to residential and community program spaces, and community partner sites. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and Apricot. SPECIFICATIONS FOR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Hybrid position requiring 3 days onsite, 2 days remote. Will be required to read printed and handwritten materials. Will be required to read information on computer screen. Will be required to use computer keyboard and mouse. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time. Must be able to enter information in digital forms and spreadsheets. Occasionally required to reach and bend. Ability to travel to locations within New York City.
