Board Director

Company Description The Momentum Support Initiative (TMS Initiative) is a dynamic youth-led organization based in Southwest Nigeria, dedicated to empowering marginalized communities. The organization focuses on raising awareness and driving action on issues such as HIV/AIDS, sexual exploitation, domestic and gender-based violence, socio-economic opportunities, capacity building, climate change, safety and security, and life skills training. TMS Initiative also prioritizes community-based education and advocates for the human rights of marginalized groups across Nigeria. Founded as an informal group in 2020 and formally organized in 2021, the initiative has rapidly grown into a structured platform for impactful grassroots engagement and youth leadership.

Role Description The Board Director is a volunteer, remote position responsible for providing strategic guidance, governance oversight, and mission-aligned leadership to The Momentum Support Initiative. Day-to-day activities include participating in virtual board meetings, reviewing organizational plans, policies, and budgets, and offering input on program design and impact measurement. The Board Director will collaborate with other board members and the leadership team to strengthen organizational sustainability, support fundraising and partnership development, and ensure that initiatives reflect the needs of marginalized communities. This role may also involve mentoring youth leaders, representing the organization at virtual events or stakeholder engagements, and helping uphold transparency, accountability, and ethical standards in all operations.

Qualifications

• Experience in nonprofit governance, strategic planning, or organizational leadership, preferably within social impact or community-based initiatives.
• Knowledge of issues such as public health (including HIV/AIDS), human rights, gender-based violence, or socio-economic development in African or similar contexts.
• Demonstrated ability in stakeholder engagement, partnership development, advocacy, or community mobilization.
• Strong communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in remote, diverse, and youth-led environments.
• Capacity to contribute to fundraising strategies, resource mobilization, and sustainable growth of a volunteer-driven organization.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and non-discrimination, and alignment with TMS Initiative’s mission and values.
• Prior board or advisory experience is an advantage but not required; applicants with relevant leadership or professional backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
