📌 Job Title: Board Member - Treasurer
🧭 Location: Remote (The Netherlands)
🕒 Employment Type: Volunteer / Part time (2-4 hours weekly)
Advocates Who Thrive is a mission-driven nonprofit foundation committed to championing dignity, growth, and inclusion for marginalized voices around the world. We believe that advocacy begins within — by building thriving, inclusive communities, and equipping change-makers with the tools and support they need to lead courageously.
Through training, coaching and capacity-building, we partner with grassroots and global allies to amplify the voices of those often unheard, working towards a future where thriving is a human right, not a privilege.
At AWT, we are more than an organization — we are a values-driven movement, powered by purpose, collaboration, and radical empathy.
We are seeking a passionate Board Member to join our team as Treasurer. You don't need prior board experience or a high-level corporate career to apply—everyone is welcome! In this role, you'll help guide Advocates Who Thrive by providing big-picture guidance and financial oversight to keep our foundation healthy, sound, and moving forward. Rather than handling daily operations, you'll act as a trusted advisor, asking thoughtful questions and making sure our finances and strategy stay on track to empower the communities we serve.
- Good Governance & Sound Decision-Making: Helping ensure the organisation follows clear, sensible rules and stays true to its values.
- Accountability & Financial Oversight: Keeping an eye on our overall organizational health and checking that money and resources are used wisely and responsibly.
- Strategic Guidance: Offering feedback and fresh perspectives on key decisions without needing to do hands-on, daily tasks.
- Legal & Ethical Stewardship: Helping us remain fully compliant with legal, ethical, and board responsibilities.
- Supportive: Acting as a sounding board for the organisation, offering expertise, perspective and networks where relevant.
- Ensure alignment with AWT’s values, tone, and equity-first approach
- Treasurer-Specific Oversight: Reviewing financial updates, helping plan budget directions, and ensuring financial clarity across the board.
- Comfort with money & numbers: You are interested in finance and budgets, though you don't need a corporate finance career.
- Courage to speak up: You feel comfortable asking critical questions, sharing your view, and offering constructive feedback.
- Accessibility & Openness: No corporate background or past board experience required—we value real-world perspective and commitment.
- Responsibility: You understand that being on a board comes with real accountability — including financial and ethical responsibility.
- Integrity: You're transparent, proactive, and not afraid to speak up when something feels off.
- Team spirit: We work together in an informal, respectful, and open-minded way.
- Strong skills in collaboration and decision-making.
- Previous experience in a nonprofit or advocacy-based organization
- Multilingual fluency / intercultural fluency
- Lived experience related to the communities we serve
- A supportive and values-aligned team environment
- Flexibility and autonomy
- A platform to contribute to meaningful, global impact
As a token of our appreciation for your dedication, we offer the following:
- Travel Compensation: Reimbursement for travel expenses related to events or activities conducted on behalf of AWT.
- Learning & Development: Priority access to internal coaching, training, and development opportunities — plus possible access to partner programs.
- Monthly Community Meetings: Join us for mission-focused discussions and delicious vegan snacks & drinks with fellow team members.
- Written Reference: Receive a personalized letter of recommendation to support your future professional or educational pursuits.
We believe in transparency and respect for every candidate’s time. Here’s what you can expect:
- CV Screening – We review your background for mission and skills alignment.
- One Virtual Interview (with HR & Chairman of the board) – A friendly and focused conversation about your motivation, experience, and alignment with our work.
- Feedback – After the process completion, we will send you an email with feedback within 7 business days..
We value every application and ensure a respectful and timely process.
