Mission — Why the Job Exists

The Business Application Administrator will help Descartes operate, secure, integrate, and continuously improve the enterprise applications that support a growing global software organization. As part of the IT Business Support team, you will work across administrators, analysts, project managers, IT teams, and business stakeholders, combining hands-on application administration with security, automation, integration, and process improvement.

Your mission is to make Descartes' business applications reliable, secure, scalable, and easier to administer while identifying opportunities to use automation and AI to improve how application administration gets done.

Outcomes — What Success Looks Like

You will:

  • Strengthen application reliability and security by configuring, integrating, supporting, maintaining, troubleshooting, patching, and updating business applications while enforcing information-security policies and controls.
  • Create more consistent access management by standardizing user and API administration and maintaining appropriate access controls across business applications.
  • Turn business needs into scalable solutions by translating requirements into effective functional and technical specifications and solutions.
  • Improve efficiency through automation and AI, identifying suitable application-administration activities that can be simplified or automated.
  • Advance compliance and audit readiness through strong application controls, documentation of technical configurations and IT processes, and support for application audit requirements.
  • Increase the value of the application portfolio by evaluating new releases and features, identifying application gaps and potential solutions, and contributing to technology evaluation and selection.
  • Drive consistency across business applications by promoting process harmonization and serving as a credible application technical subject-matter expert across business units.

Skills, Experience & Competencies — How the Work Gets Done

Essential experience

  • 3–5 years of related experience in business application administration or a closely related IT discipline.
  • Broad hands-on experience administering users, security, and integrations across multiple on-premises and SaaS enterprise applications.
  • Hands-on administration experience across the Microsoft business applications stack is a mandate.
  • Experience with SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, O365, D365, Power Platform, and Fabric is highly relevant.
  • Experience implementing, maintaining, and monitoring secure user-access authentication protocols.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL, ITSM, ISMS, and Change Management, including experience managing activities or projects through project-management and ITIL systems.
  • Practical, day-to-day experience with Copilot, scripting, SQL, Power BI, and advanced Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex technical problems, guide their resolution, and strategically prioritize competing demands.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to succeed as both an individual contributor and member of cross-functional project teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • A university degree, college diploma, or industry certification in a related IT field is preferred, and Microsoft certifications are considered an asset.

Aptitudes

  • Smart: Able to quickly understand complex systems, connect ideas, and make sound judgments.
  • Curious: Actively seeks to understand customer problems, emerging technologies, and better ways of working.
  • Coachable: Open to feedback, willing to adapt, and continuously improving through learning.

What’s in It for You

This is an opportunity to work across a broad portfolio of business technology rather than being limited to a single application. You’ll collaborate with administrators, analysts, project managers, IT teams, and business stakeholders while developing deeper expertise across Microsoft business applications, SaaS administration, security, integration, automation, AI, compliance, and application optimization.
