Business Growth & Execution Manager
Excelsiar | People Management SolutionsExcelsiar People Management Solutions
Location: South Africa – Primarily Remote
Employment: Full-time
Gross Basic Salary: R40,000 – R45,000 per month, depending on experience
Incentives: Annual performance incentive + separate new-business incentive
Excelsiar is a South African payroll services business providing payroll outsourcing, payroll software, compliance support and specialist payroll consulting services.
We are entering the next stage of our growth and are looking for an exceptional Business Growth & Execution Manager to work directly with our Managing Director and help turn business strategy and ideas into action.
Our objective is to continue developing Excelsiar into a scalable, technology-enabled business with strong recurring revenue, excellent client relationships and increasingly automated and standardised operations.
This is not a traditional administrative or operations-management position.
We are looking for someone who is comfortable being given an objective rather than a detailed set of instructions.
You should be able to take an idea, understand the intended outcome, determine what needs to happen, coordinate the required people and resources, and drive the initiative through to completion.
You will work directly with the Managing Director across business development, sales, marketing, client development, strategic projects, systems and business improvement initiatives.
As the role develops, you will be expected to take increasing ownership of execution across the business, allowing the Managing Director to focus more heavily on strategy, growth and commercial direction.
You will be responsible for:
- Turning agreed strategies and business ideas into practical implementation plans and completed outcomes.
- Driving business-development initiatives and maintaining momentum across the sales pipeline.
- Coordinating prospect follow-ups, proposals and new-business opportunities.
- Executing marketing initiatives, campaigns, communications, website improvements and marketing collateral.
- Managing external marketing, technology and other service providers where required.
- Developing and coordinating structured client-review and retention initiatives.
- Identifying opportunities to expand services within existing client relationships.
- Identifying client relationship risks and ensuring appropriate action is taken.
- Managing strategic internal projects from concept through to implementation.
- Coordinating new services, pricing initiatives, systems, automation and process improvements.
- Ensuring actions involving different areas of the business are followed through and completed.
- Maintaining clear management visibility over projects, sales opportunities, client risks and outstanding actions.
- Identifying activities currently dependent on the Managing Director that can be delegated, systemised, automated or eliminated.
- Continuously looking for better and more efficient ways for Excelsiar to operate and grow.
This position is not a payroll-processing, bookkeeping, support-consulting or personal-assistant role. You will work alongside the people responsible for these functions while helping ensure wider business initiatives move forward successfully.
The most important characteristic we are looking for is execution ability.
You should have a demonstrated track record of taking an objective or idea and independently turning it into something that actually works.
You are likely to thrive in this role if your natural response is:
“I understand what we are trying to achieve. Let me work out how we make it happen.”
rather than:
“Tell me exactly what you would like me to do next.”
Independent execution
You can take ownership of an objective, determine the actions required and drive it through to completion without constant direction.
Commercial thinking
You understand how decisions affect revenue, profitability, client retention, growth and efficiency.
Project ownership
You are highly organised, maintain momentum, follow up consistently and finish what you start.
Excellent communication
You can communicate professionally with clients, prospects, suppliers and colleagues and produce high-quality written communication independently.
Client confidence
You are comfortable engaging with business owners, executives and senior client stakeholders.
Technology confidence
You are comfortable learning and working with modern business systems, collaboration platforms, automation tools and AI. You do not need to be a developer, but you should naturally look for opportunities to use technology to improve how work gets done.
Sound judgement and autonomy
You understand which decisions you can make independently and which genuinely require escalation.
Constructive challenge
You are confident enough to question an idea and recommend a better approach where appropriate rather than simply agreeing with everything presented to you.
This position is primarily home-based, and the ability to work effectively and independently in a remote environment is essential.
You must be able to:
- structure and manage your own working day;
- remain productive while working independently;
- manage priorities and deadlines without daily supervision;
- communicate proactively and keep relevant people informed;
- take responsibility for maintaining momentum on your projects; and
- maintain an appropriate professional home-working environment with reliable internet connectivity.
Although predominantly remote, you must be willing and able to travel to client sites and attend occasional in-person business meetings or events when required.
Remote working at Excelsiar is based on trust, accountability and outcomes, not continuous supervision.
We expect approximately 5–8+ years of relevant business experience, although demonstrated capability will carry greater weight than years of service alone.
Experience across several of the following would be particularly valuable:
- B2B business development;
- client relationship management;
- professional or outsourced services;
- project implementation;
- marketing execution;
- commercial or business operations;
- technology-enabled services;
- recurring-revenue businesses;
- HR technology, payroll, accounting technology or SaaS.
Previous payroll experience is advantageous but not required.
A relevant tertiary qualification in Business Management, Commerce, Marketing, Project Management or a related discipline would be advantageous. Proven execution capability and commercial judgement will carry greater weight than qualifications alone.
Gross basic salary: R40,000 – R45,000 per month, depending on experience and demonstrated capability.
This equates to an annual gross basic salary of R480,000 – R540,000.
The position does not currently include employer-funded medical aid or provident/pension fund benefits.
The position qualifies for an annual performance incentive of up to 15% of annual basic salary, representing potential additional remuneration of approximately R72,000 – R81,000 per annum.
The incentive will be linked to measurable outcomes including:
- successful implementation of strategic initiatives;
- delivery of agreed marketing and business-development programmes;
- client retention and development;
- systems, automation and process improvements; and
- measurable reduction in dependency on the Managing Director for day-to-day execution.
Performance is measured by outcomes achieved, not simply activity or hours worked.
A separate new-business incentive programme provides additional earning potential for generating or materially contributing to new, profitable recurring business for Excelsiar.
Specific commission rates and qualification criteria will be discussed as part of the employment process.
The remuneration structure therefore consists of:
Guaranteed Basic Salary + Annual Performance Incentive + New-Business Incentive
Success will be visible through:
- business initiatives moving from idea to implementation faster;
- a consistently managed sales and business-development pipeline;
- marketing initiatives being implemented rather than remaining ideas;
- stronger structured engagement with existing clients;
- new commercial opportunities being identified and pursued;
- strategic projects being completed with less Managing Director intervention;
- better use of systems, automation and technology; and
- fewer business initiatives depending on the Managing Director personally to keep them moving.
Ultimately, we want to reach the point where the Managing Director can communicate what Excelsiar is trying to achieve and trust you to take significant responsibility for making it happen.
This is an opportunity to work directly with the owner of an established business during an important stage of its development.
It will suit someone who enjoys the flexibility, autonomy and responsibility of an entrepreneurial environment and wants to have a visible impact on how a business grows.
This is not a narrowly defined corporate position. The scope will evolve as Excelsiar grows, with the opportunity for a successful individual to assume progressively greater responsibility within the business.
