Business Growth & Operations Associate

Employment Type: Full-Time, Fully Remote

Reporting To: Founders

Working Days: 5-6 days per week, including 1 weekend

About Umeus

Umeus is a growing multi-brand ecosystem across sports, wellness, lifestyle, and community.

Each business has its own identity, audience, and growth priorities while operating under one strategic umbrella focused on building meaningful experiences, engaged communities, and scalable businesses.

As the group continues to grow, we are looking for someone who can take ownership across business growth, customer relationships, and day-to-day operations - helping our businesses grow while ensuring they remain organised, responsive, and operationally strong.

About the Role

The Business Growth & Operations Associate sits at the intersection of growth, customers, and operations.

Your role has three core objectives:

  • Grow the business
  • Strengthen and stabilize the business
  • Own our customer communications and relationships.

You will work closely with the different departments and across different Umeus businesses to drive revenue, manage customer conversations, identify opportunities, solve problems, and keep day-to-day priorities moving.

This is a fast-moving role for someone who is commercially minded, highly responsive, resourceful, organised, and comfortable taking ownership.

You will not simply be given a list of tasks to complete.

You will be expected to understand the objectives of the businesses you support, identify what needs attention, prioritise effectively, and drive things towards an outcome.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business Growth

You will be responsible for helping the businesses under your care grow. This means both converting existing opportunities and actively creating new ones.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Handling and converting inbound sales enquiries
  • Following up consistently with leads and opportunities
  • Re-engaging previous leads and customers
  • Identifying upselling and cross-selling opportunities
  • Conducting proactive outreach
  • Supporting corporate, partnership, and commercial opportunities
  • Identifying gaps within the sales pipeline
  • Developing and executing new sales and growth initiatives
  • Finding ways to improve conversion and customer retention
  • Working with marketing and other departments to support growth
  • Monitoring sales performance and identifying areas for improvement
  • Taking ownership of assigned revenue and growth targets

We don't want someone who only asks: “Which leads do I need to reply to?”

We want someone who also asks: “Where else can we find business?”

2. Customer Relationships & Communications

You will be one of the main points of contact between our businesses and our customers.

Your job is not simply to answer messages.

You should be able to understand what someone needs, build rapport, recommend the right solution, solve problems, close opportunities when appropriate, and maintain the relationship afterwards.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Managing customer conversations across WhatsApp, CRM, and other communication channels
  • Responding quickly, clearly, and naturally
  • Understanding customer needs before recommending solutions
  • Building genuine relationships with customers
  • Handling objections and closing opportunities
  • Managing complaints and difficult conversations professionally
  • Following up until conversations reach a clear outcome
  • Maintaining relationships with existing customers
  • Identifying retention, upselling, and cross-selling opportunities
  • Ensuring important enquiries, conversations, and issues never fall through the cracks

We are looking for someone who understands that good customer relationships and good commercial outcomes should work together.

3. Business Operations

Growth only works when the business behind it is stable.

You will help ensure that the businesses and responsibilities assigned to you remain organised and operationally strong.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Monitoring day-to-day business operations
  • Identifying and resolving operational issues
  • Coordinating with relevant team members and departments
  • Keeping CRM pipelines, customer records, and follow-ups organised
  • Ensuring commitments and outstanding matters are completed
  • Tracking important business and operational metrics
  • Maintaining accurate internal information and reporting
  • Identifying recurring problems and improving the underlying processes
  • Creating or improving systems where necessary
  • Escalating important matters quickly
  • Keeping founders informed of important issues, progress, and opportunities
  • Following problems through until they are resolved

  • We don't want someone who simply reports: “There's a problem.”

We want someone who thinks: “There's a problem. Why is it happening? What can I do about it? What needs to happen next?”

    What We're Looking For

    • Someone who is naturally fast and highly responsive, and a good texter. You check your communications frequently, respond quickly, and don't allow important messages, opportunities, or problems to sit unattended. You understand that in a fast-moving business, speed matters.
    • Someone highly accountable. When you own something, you own the outcome, not simply the task. You don't need to be repeatedly reminded or chased for updates. If something isn't going according to plan, you communicate early, take action, and find a way forward. If you make a mistake, you acknowledge it, fix it, and learn from it.
    • Someone commercially minded. You understand that businesses need to make money and grow. You naturally recognise opportunities, understand customer needs, follow up confidently, and know how to move conversations towards decisions. At the same time, you understand that long-term customer relationships matter more than forcing a short-term sale.
    • Someone strong with people. You understand people. You know when to sell, when to listen, when to follow up, when to solve a problem, and when pushing harder will damage the relationship. You are able to communicate naturally with different personalities and adapt your approach depending on the situation.
    • Someone fast and resourceful. You don't freeze when you encounter something unfamiliar. You learn quickly, find information, ask good questions, make sensible decisions, and keep things moving.
    • Someone highly organised. You are able to handle multiple conversations, priorities, deadlines, and businesses at the same time. You are to be able to keep track of details, follow-ups, commitments, and priorities without constantly being reminded.
    • Someone proactive. You don't wait until someone tells you something needs attention. You notice things. You identify opportunities and problems early and take action. If business is slow, you don't simply wait for more enquiries to arrive. You ask what can be done to change it.
    • Someone highly adaptable. Umeus operates across multiple businesses, and priorities can change quickly. You should be comfortable operating in sales, customers, operations, problem-solving, and growth initiatives.

    Working Style & Expectations

This is a full-time, fully remote role with a 5-6-day work week, including 1 weekend day.

This is not a traditional clock-in, clock-out role with standard working hours.

On your working days, you are expected to maintain ownership of your responsibilities and remain responsive when matters arise, including outside conventional office hours.

We care less about whether you are sitting at your desk between specific hours and more about whether:

    • Customers are being responded to quickly
    • Opportunities are being followed up
    • Sales are moving
    • Problems are being resolved
    • Deadlines are being met
    • Important matters are communicated quickly
    • Your responsibilities are under control
    • Business objectives are being achieved

Flexibility comes with accountability. If something important happens within an area you own, the expectation is not: “My working hours are over.” The expectation is: “I own this. What needs to happen?”

    How Success Will Be Measured

Your performance will be measured by both business outcomes and how reliably you operate.

    This may include:

    • Revenue and business growth
    • Sales conversion
    • Lead follow-up performance
    • Proactive outreach and opportunity generation
    • Customer response speed
    • Customer experience
    • Customer retention
    • Upselling and cross-selling
    • Pipeline health and accuracy
    • Operational reliability
    • Speed and quality of problem resolution
    • Quality and timeliness of updates
    • Ability to identify and solve problems
    • Initiative
    • Organisation and prioritisation
    • Accountability and follow-through
    • Ability to work effectively across teams
    • Overall ownership of assigned businesses and responsibilities

    Who Will Thrive Here

    • You will likely thrive in this role if you are someone who is very switched on.
    • You are naturally responsive.
    • You notice things.
    • You remember what needs to be done.
    • You follow up without being chased.
    • You care about customers while understanding that the business needs to achieve commercial results.
    • When something goes wrong, you don't disappear, become defensive, or wait for someone else to solve it.
    • You communicate, think, and act.
    • When business is slow, you don't sit around waiting for enquiries.
    • You look for opportunities.
    • When you're given ownership, you genuinely take ownership.
    • You enjoy responsibility, move quickly, communicate well, and take pride in being someone your team can rely on.

This Role May Not Be For You If You

Need highly fixed working hours and routines.

    • Prefer waiting for tasks to be assigned to you
    • Need frequent reminders and follow-ups
    • Are uncomfortable being accountable for business outcomes
    • Prefer working within a very narrow scope
    • Struggle with changing priorities
    • Regularly leave messages unanswered for long periods
    • Avoid difficult conversations
    • Are uncomfortable with sales or commercial targets
    • Tend to identify problems without taking action to solve them
