About us

In Ghana, only 1 in 10 tertiary graduates land a job within the first year after graduating; the other 9 can take up to 5 years to secure permanent work. My First Job is a virtual, 10-month Career Accelerator Program organized by the Global Shapers Accra Hub with the goal of bridging the gap between academic knowledge and workplace skills. By training and mentoring recent graduates (National Service Personnel) and using National Service jobs as a platform, participants gain practical experience, refine their abilities, and enhance their employability, ensuring a seamless school-to-work transition process. The program won the maiden Global Innovation Prize established by the Global Shapers Community, an initiative of the World Economic Forum, in conjunction with Accenture and Global Alliance 4 YOUth.

Role Overview

You will advance the goal of one major pillar of this Career Accelerator—skills building. We aim to deliver three categories of skills: soft skills, ICT skills, and job-hunting skills. As a facilitator, you will lead workshops and training sessions on a dedicated topic and collaborate with our Learning & Development and Events teams to deliver best-in-class, practical learning experiences to our fellows.

Facilitator Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Delivery and Engagement: You will develop an immersive learning experience with practical dimensions for your assigned topic. This requires ensuring that examples are specific to both the context of the Ghanaian and global work environments. You will develop and implement hands-on activities, group exercises, and case studies to foster practical learning and knowledge application. You will deliver engaging and interactive sessions, tailoring content to meet the learning needs of participants (early career talents). By leveraging various communication styles and techniques, you will ensure clear understanding and active participation.

2. Learning Facilitation and Feedback: You will guide and facilitate group discussions to promote inclusion and provide timely and constructive feedback to participants on their performance, skills development, and progress. As part of curriculum delivery, you will own the development of an assessment method for each participant to support our monitoring and evaluation efforts and measure the real change we are bringing to our fellows. Through this and other feedback mechanisms, we will discover recommendations for program improvement.

3. Collaboration with Program Team: You will collaborate effectively with the program team, including mentors, resource personnel, events, and the L&D team. Your feedback on the curriculum content and delivery, as well as suggestions for improvement, will contribute to the success of future sessions. You will contribute ideas and suggestions to enhance overall program effectiveness and participant experience. Because of the transparency required throughout the program, we urge facilitators to create a safe environment for fellows and respect the privacy and confidentiality of all participant information.

Facilitator Qualifications:

• 3+ years of demonstrated competence and experience in delivering training in line with the assigned topic.

• Proven ability to effectively facilitate group discussions, workshops, and training sessions for 100+ people.

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to engage participants and build rapport.

• A genuine commitment to promoting learning and development among young professionals.
