CEO Peer Advisory / Mastermind Circle
The concept
The decisions that matter most to a CEO or business owner are often the hardest to discuss inside the business. A facilitated circle of carefully matched peers provides a sounding board for consequential decisions, candid challenge and shared leadership learning.
Rutherford International welcomes expressions of interest from CEOs, presidents and owner-managers who want to examine real business challenges with other leaders—and contribute their experience, judgement and perspectives in return.
This is an expression of interest in a membership programme, not an employment opportunity or a paid advisory appointment.
Who should participate
- CEOs, presidents and owner-managers with decision responsibility for their enterprise.
- Leaders seeking independent perspectives on business strategy, growth, succession, transformation and leadership.
- Executives willing to examine their assumptions, share relevant experience and receive constructive challenge.
- Participants able to commit time to preparation, attendance and follow-through.
Professionals based in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom may register.
Assessment and group composition
The RutherfordINTEL Assessment helps us understand each executive’s behavioural profile, leadership style and priorities, and how these align with the circle’s objectives.
For example, an opportunistic, results-driven CEO leading a start-up or early-stage enterprise may have different priorities from an Insightful Altruist managing a stable or late-stage organisation. Neither profile is inherently preferable; the question is how each executive’s needs and contribution fit the group.
Rutherford applies an approach similar to its executive leadership team analysis to balance shared objectives, complementary perspectives and constructive working relationships. Assessment findings are considered alongside enterprise stage, decision responsibility, business complexity, current challenges and curator judgement.
The aim is a circle whose members can challenge and support one another productively. Matching does not require identical personalities, company sizes or professional backgrounds.
How the circle works
Members are drawn from different, non-competing sectors and matched for relevant responsibilities, objectives and challenges.
Facilitated sessions may take place by video and in person, with occasional guest speakers and topics informed by members’ priorities.
The curator reviews each circle’s composition as members’ needs and businesses evolve. A move to another suitable circle may be proposed and discussed with the affected members, with compatibility and conflicts reviewed beforehand.
The participant’s contribution
Members are expected to:
- Bring genuine business or leadership issues, framed clearly enough for peers to help.
- Listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions and challenge constructively.
- Share relevant experience, including setbacks and lessons learned.
- Recognise that another enterprise’s circumstances may require a different approach.
- Honour agreed confidentiality and disclose potential conflicts.
- Avoid uninvited selling or solicitation within the circle.
- Follow through on personal commitments and report back honestly.
Each member remains responsible for their own decisions. The circle has no authority over members’ enterprises and does not replace specialist professional advice.
Confidentiality and trust
Open discussion depends on discretion and responsible information handling. Confidentiality obligations continue when a member leaves or changes circles. Moving does not authorise sharing information learned in a previous group.
Absolute confidentiality cannot be guaranteed. Competitively sensitive information, including pricing and bids, must not be shared within the circle.
Membership fees
Membership involves an initiation fee and recurring monthly or quarterly dues. Amounts, participation arrangements and terms will be provided in writing before you commit.
Nothing is payable when you register your interest. Members pay to participate and are not remunerated for contributing to peers.
Registration and consideration
Select “I’m interested” to complete Rutherford International’s Talent Registration form.
Following initial review, a curator may invite you to provide further information and undertake the RutherfordINTEL Assessment. Your experience, professional objectives, assessment findings and potential contribution will inform consideration for membership and circle matching.
If you are interested in facilitating a circle, please indicate this when registering. Facilitator suitability is reviewed separately from membership.
Registration does not guarantee acceptance, placement in a circle or the immediate availability of a suitable group.
