Certification and Compliance Engineer (Electrical Safety/RF/Environmental Effects)

Robin Radar

Is this job info correct?

You will boost the engineering capacity within the radar team and focus on compliance and certification. You will pick up ongoing certifications like the US certifications for MAX (our bird radar) and military standards testing for IRIS (our drone detection radar) and kick-start the ones to come. Our products evolve, and this has an impact on compliance. Your role is to assess this, make a plan, and execute the tests necessary to ensure future compliance. To facilitate smooth product development, a test at an accredited company should be a walk in the park because we have already performed proper pre-compliance testing, which you will manage and mature. You can translate the norms into tests and interpret the test result into advice to improve our products. Furthermore you can enable global market access (GMA) for our products by ensuring that we meet the varying requirements (Electrical Safety/ RF) in our target markets. Responsibilities Requirements Management & Tailoring: Identify compliance requirements during the project conceptual phase. This includes both regulatory laws and, crucially, developing test profiles based on product tailoring and mission profiles for military standards (e.g., environmental or shock/vibe profiles). External Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact and negotiator with external partners, including accredited test laboratories, regulatory bodies (FCC, notified bodies), and specialized external consultants. Market Access Strategy: Identify appropriate certification paths with foreign regulatory agencies and military customers to gain global market access (GMA), then plan and oversee the execution of (re)certification tests. Lifecycle Management: Keep all current product certificates up-to-date with evolving laws, regulations, and product updates. Technical Documentation: Compose and update test plans for approval processes (e.g., STANAG, CE, FCC, NRTL) and generate safety assessments. Capability Growth: Mature internal pre-compliance test capabilities to reduce risk before formal external testing. Requirements The Core Essentials Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a similar technical field. Proven experience in managing relationships and projects with external parties, such as accredited test houses, NRTLs, regulators, or specialized engineering consultants. Solid technical background in at least one major testing discipline: Environmental, Safety, Radio. Extensive experience with NRTLs /UL approval processes and North American electrical safety standards or thorough understanding of FCC regulations. Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to translate complex norms into actionable engineering advice. Nice to Have Military Standards Expert: Deep knowledge of MIL-STD (e.g., 810/461) or STANAG AECTP requirements. Experience in tailoring requirements and developing test plans based on Life Cycle Environmental Profiles (LCEP). Specialist knowledge in RF testing and certification. Deep technical understanding of radio parameters, spectrum allocation, and associated international standards (ETSI/FCC). N.B . All applicants, we realize that this is quite the list and people come with various levels of experience. Don't be afraid to apply even if you feel you don't meet every desired skill. Our mission is a journey and there's plenty to learn on the way! But of course, you should identify with our core values: We trust, We own it & We aim high. What's in for you Working for a Great Place to Work® certified company; Comprehensive pension plan; Commuting allowance; 30 days of paid holiday leave (with the possibility to buy 3 additional days); Opportunities to develop your skills even further through training and certifications; High laptop/desktop, monitor, noise canceling headphones, and any other equipment necessary for your role; An international team of 30+ nationalities, full of high performance colleagues you can exchange experiences with and learn from. As well as having a lot of fun in our social events and Friday drinks! Robin is a technology leader in tracking and classification of small objects. Our mission is to increase the safety of people and wildlife by preventing bird strikes in aviation, reducing the environmental impact of wind farms, and protecting humans and critical infrastructure against drones. We achieve this by combining purpose-built radars with unique software algorithms. This powerful combination allows us to provide actionable information that empowers users to prevent serious incidents. We’re growing. Fast. In fact, we are one of the top 10 fastest‑growing companies in the Netherlands. But despite this growth, we stay true to our core values of trust, ownership and aiming high. At Robin, you don’t join just a team. You join a collective of bright minds driven by the belief that ‘doing things better’ is a continuous challenge. Want to work on next-level radar tech, solve real problems, and never have to pretend your job has meaning? You’ll fit right in, we’re saving you a seat.
