Chief Accountant

For our partner, an importer and distributor of ceramic products with over 30 years of history, we are looking for an experienced Chief Accountant with a solid background in a similar role, ideally gained within Retail, FMCG, or Construction, to join a small, hands-on finance team with a strong focus on accuracy.

You will be working in a high-volume distribution business involving significant transaction volumes, imports, and inventory, where data accuracy and financial control are essential. This is a hands-on role with a direct impact on day-to-day operations.

Onboarding will take place at the company’s headquarters in Târgoviște for up to one month, allowing you to get to know the team, workflows, and systems. Afterwards, the role will be fully remote, offering flexibility and autonomy.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage financial and management accounting, including monthly and year-end closing.
• Handle distribution-specific accounting matters, including inventory, cost of goods sold, margins, discounts and provisions.
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, reconcile balances and monitor outstanding receivables.
• Monitor cash flow, payments and collections.
• Handle imports, VAT, intra-Community acquisitions and the related documentation.
• Participate in inventory counts and reconcile physical stock with inventory records and accounting records.
• Prepare financial reports and analyses covering sales, costs, margins, inventory and receivables.
• Liaise with auditors and prepare the required documentation for ANAF, INS and other relevant authorities.
• Ensure compliance with accounting and tax legislation and apply appropriate internal controls.
• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting and financial performance analysis.
• Propose digitalisation and automation improvements in collaboration with the IT/ERP team.
• Coordinate a small accounting team while remaining actively involved in day-to-day accounting activities.

What You Bring to the Team

• 5–7 years of experience in finance and accounting, ideally within FMCG, retail or construction.
• Experience in dynamic companies with high transaction volumes, distribution and trading activities.
• Experience working with transport invoices, inventory, goods, and construction materials.
• Experience with imports and in managing relationships with suppliers and customers.
• Solid understanding of commercial margins.
• Experience in ERP implementation.
• Intermediate English.
• Strong coordination skills, reliability, flexibility, empathy, and a hands-on approach.
• A rigorous approach to data accuracy and financial control.
