Make Your Financial Leadership Matter

For over a century, Fred Finch Youth & Family Services has been changing the trajectory of young lives, providing behavioral health, education, and family support services to some of California’s most vulnerable youth and families. None of that work happens without the people behind the people: a finance team that keeps our mission funded, compliant, and sustainable.

As our Chief Financial Officer, you’ll report to the CEO and work closely with our Board of Directors to shape the financial strategy that lets our direct-care staff focus on what they do best: showing up for kids and families every day.

This is a hands-on executive role with real autonomy and real visibility. You’ll partner with departments across the agency on contracting, billing, and insurance, and lead an accounting team of 15+ staff, from payroll and medical billing to full-cycle accounting, shaping its culture, accuracy, and cadence.

What You’ll Do

Financial Strategy & Treasury

• Oversee cash flow, liquidity, investments, lines of credit, and banking relationships

• Build forward-looking models and analyses that guide operations and business plans

• Own financial reporting, including systems for incurred but not yet reported (IBNR) transactions

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Lead development and monitoring of cost center and consolidated agency budgets with the executive team

• Create forecasts and business plans that support new initiatives and revenue diversification

Leadership & Strategy

• Lead and mentor the finance team, including the Controller, Accounting Analyst, and Accounting Data Specialist

• Partner with the executive team on retention, compensation, benefits, and policy development

• Stay current on technology that improves efficiency and strengthens reporting

Board & Funder Relations

• Work with the Board’s Finance Committee on short-, medium-, and long-term plans, including capital improvements

• Deliver timely, accurate reporting to funders, foundations, and the Board, including monthly and annual statements and cost reports

• Partner with our analytics program so EHR and financial data are reported together accurately

• Develop proposals for payers and grant funders, and represent the agency to banks, auditors, public officials, vendors, and donors

Compliance & Controls

• Manage compliance risk across tax filings, annual and single audits, and state and federal reporting

• Maintain strong internal controls and stay current on nonprofit audit practices and law

• Oversee the 401(k), employee benefits, health insurance, and business insurance (GL, D&O, etc.)

What You Bring

• 7+ years of increasingly responsible experience in financial planning, budgeting, or financial analysis, including 3+ years in senior financial leadership

• Proven experience in strategic financial planning, budgeting, and risk management

• Knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including fund accounting, compliance, and reporting

• Experience building and leading high-performing, stable teams

• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to a wide range of stakeholders

• A desire to mentor others and maintain a healthy, productive work environment

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (equivalent experience considered)

Preferred

• MBA

• Senior financial leadership experience in the nonprofit sector

• Experience in a healthcare, behavioral health, or human services setting

Benefits at a Glance

• 21 PTO days per year

• 9 nationally observed holidays

• 401(k) matching up to 6%

• Up to $10,000 in the Degree Assistance Program

• Affordable monthly health care premiums
