Civil Engineer – HV Transmission / HVDC

A leading international power systems consultancy is expanding its team and is looking for an experienced Civil Engineer with a strong background in civil engineering aspects of HV transmission projects, particularly cable installation and the onshore construction of substations and HVDC converter stations.

The role will support complex transmission infrastructure projects and involve working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Typical activities will include, but are not limited to:

• Define project-specific civil engineering requirements for HVDC converter stations and cable systems.
• Evaluate potential sites from a civil engineering perspective, considering feasibility, constraints and technical challenges.
• Assess cable route feasibility, including crossings, HDD, access restrictions and other civil engineering considerations.
• Develop and manage technical requirements from tender preparation through to contractor appointment.
• Prepare technical and economic comparisons of alternative solutions to support investment and project decisions.
• Determine civil engineering work scopes for greenfield transmission projects.
• Provide technical input throughout the planning, design and implementation phases of projects.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver complex HV transmission projects.

Requirements

• Degree or Master's qualification in Civil Engineering.
• Several years of experience in infrastructure projects as a Civil Design Engineer, Consulting Engineer or Project Manager within a contractor, engineering consultancy or asset owner environment.
• Strong understanding of civil engineering requirements associated with power infrastructure, particularly:
• Outdoor HV substations
• HVDC converter stations
• Buildings and control buildings
• Roads and access infrastructure
• Cable trenches and associated infrastructure
• Crossings and HDD
• Steel structures
• Experience across civil works planning, design and tendering. Experience with project execution/construction is advantageous.
• Ability to define civil engineering work scopes for greenfield projects.
• Experience working as part of multidisciplinary engineering teams on complex transmission infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of project implementation in accordance with HOAI.
• Fluent English.
• Experience with landfall civil works, including cable landing and HDD, would be advantageous.

This role allows for fully remote working, but due to office location, the ideal candidate would be living in Greece, with 1 day travelling.
