HVDC Expert – HVDC & FACTS

An international engineering and power systems consultancy is expanding its infrastructure team and is looking for an experienced HVDC Expert to join its specialist HVDC and FACTS team.

The role will involve leading the design, development and delivery of advanced solutions supporting the integration of renewable energy, HVDC and FACTS systems. You will work closely with utilities, project developers, transmission system operators and major technology suppliers on complex international transmission projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams of technical specialists in the delivery of large and complex HVDC and FACTS projects.
• Lead and support technical activities across HVDC and FACTS transmission projects, including:
• Technical specification development
• Technology and solution evaluation
• Contract and technical negotiations
• Design reviews
• Factory witness testing of major equipment
• Control and protection system design and testing
• Commissioning
• Operational readiness
• Operation and maintenance of HVDC and FACTS systems
• Support early-stage project development and coordinate Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) activities.
• Oversee procurement and tendering activities and provide technical support to project owners throughout project delivery.
• Support the development of HVDC interconnector and offshore transmission solutions.
• Interface with HVDC equipment manufacturers, transmission system operators and project developers.
• Mentor and develop members of the technical team.
• Contribute to the development of engineering best practices, continuous improvement initiatives and strategic industry partnerships.
• Ensure project activities are delivered in accordance with relevant policies, quality standards and financial targets.

Requirements

• Strong technical knowledge of the HVDC and FACTS industry.
• 10+ years of professional experience within the HVDC sector.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's degree is advantageous.
• Proven experience leading teams of technical specialists.
• Proven track record delivering large and complex HVDC projects.
• Experience across the HVDC project lifecycle, including:
• Technical specifications
• Design reviews
• Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
• HVDC major equipment
• Control and protection systems
• Commissioning
• Operational readiness
• Operation and maintenance of HVDC assets
• Experience working directly with HVDC original equipment manufacturers and technology suppliers.
• Experience supporting the delivery of large and complex transmission projects.
• Fluent English.
• Willingness to travel internationally depending on project and business requirements.

This role allows for fully remote working, but due to office location, the ideal candidate would be living in Greece, with 1 day travelling.
