Show job description

Join a Sydney-based civil contracting business delivering mainly government projects, working fully remotely from the Philippines. This is a long-term role with steady work and a clear path to grow as the business does.

Role Summary
The Civil Estimator owns the estimating process from tender invitation through to submission for government and council civil projects, covering excavation, earthworks, waste disposal and associated civil works. Day to day, you will review drawings and specifications, prepare quantity take-offs, price labor, plant, materials and disposal costs, and gather and level supplier and subcontractor quotes so each tender is competitive and like for like. You will prepare compliant tender submissions and schedules of rates, price variations once projects are awarded, and keep rates, cost data and the tender register up to date. You will work closely with the Sydney-based team to confirm scope, assumptions and site conditions, with the opportunity to take on a bigger role in the estimating function as the business grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review tender documents, drawings and specifications for government and council civil projects, identifying scope, risks and points needing clarification

  • Prepare accurate quantity take-offs for excavation, earthworks, waste disposal and associated civil works

  • Build detailed cost estimates covering labor, plant, materials, disposal costs and subcontractors

  • Request, compare and level supplier and subcontractor quotes so pricing is competitive and like for like

  • Prepare tender submissions and schedules of rates in line with government tender requirements and deadlines

  • Price variations and support the project team with cost queries once projects are awarded

  • Maintain and update rates, cost data and estimating templates so future tenders are faster and more accurate

  • Keep the tender register up to date, tracking deadlines, submissions and outcomes

  • Liaise with the Sydney-based team to confirm scope, assumptions and site conditions

What We Are Looking For

  • 3+ years of estimating experience with an Australian civil contractor, ideally on government or council projects

  • Strong understanding of civil works including excavation, earthworks, and waste classification and disposal costs

  • Confident reading and interpreting civil drawings, specifications and bills of quantities

  • Familiarity with Australian government and council tendering processes and documentation

  • Proficiency with estimating and take-off software (e.g. Bluebeam, CostX or similar) and strong Excel skills

  • Highly detail focused, with a methodical approach to checking quantities and pricing

  • Strong organization, able to manage multiple tenders and competing deadlines at once

  • Excellent written and spoken English

  • Demonstrated employment stability, with a preference for candidates who have stayed with previous employers for around two years or more

  • A real interest in building a long-term career with the business and growing alongside the team

Requirements

  • Stable work-from-home setup (reliable internet, laptop/desktop, quiet workspace)

  • Proactive attitude, able to follow up suppliers, subcontractors and the project team without being prompted

  • Available to work Australian business hours

Benefits

  • Full-time, work-from-home

  • Steady pipeline of government projects, with a long-term career path as the business grows

  • Training and support provided

  • Work directly with a Sydney-based team that values accuracy and clear communication
