Job Type: Full-time | Location: Remote, US | Department: Innovation | Reporting to: Director, Data Center Commissioning | Work Location: #remote

IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.

The Commissioning Subject Matter Expert sets the discipline standard for commissioning across every IREN region and site. You will write and own IREN's commissioning specifications, acceptance criteria and the standard against which the Commissioning Authority's test scripts are approved; be the technical escalation point for the campus commissioning teams; review Commissioning Authority deliverables and first-of-kind installations; and give Engineering and Procurement technical input on designs, equipment and commissioning scopes. This is a program-level, senior individual-contributor role that stays with the Director rather than with one project, and it is one of the first hires into the function: the standards you write will be applied on every IREN site, by IREN's own commissioning crews and by the Commissioning Authorities IREN engages.

Controls covers the building management system, electrical power monitoring system, SCADA and PLC architecture, network and telemetry, leak detection, and their integration with monitoring and DCIM platforms: the point-to-point and I/O verification, sequence-of-operations and failure-mode testing, alarm testing and integrated systems testing that prove the facility behaves as designed under normal and failure conditions.
REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Controls or a related engineering field.
  • 10+ years of data center or mission-critical commissioning, start-up or engineering in the discipline, including large-scale programs and full Level 1 to Level 5 delivery.
  • Demonstrated authorship of commissioning specifications, test procedures or standards that were used across more than one project.
  • Deep knowledge of data center controls: building management and electrical power monitoring systems, SCADA and PLC platforms, network protocols (BACnet, Modbus, OPC) and their integration with monitoring and DCIM platforms, including how they are tested and accepted.
  • Working knowledge of integrated systems testing across controls, mechanical and electrical, and of alarm management standards such as ISA 18.2.
  • Experience reviewing and directing third-party commissioning authorities and equipment vendors.
  • Able to travel up to 25% to IREN sites.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
PREFERRED
  • BCxP or CCP held, plus a discipline credential such as ISA CAP or CCST; PE license or chartered status.
  • Ignition, Niagara or Schneider platforms; OT cybersecurity; digital-twin and DCIM integration.
  • Experience standing up commissioning in a new region or with a new commissioning authority.

LOCATION & TRAVEL
  • Remote within the United States, with travel of up to 25% to IREN sites in Texas and elsewhere in North America and to the Fort Worth office. Candidates in the Dallas–Fort Worth area or within easy reach of IREN's Texas sites are preferred.
  • Author and maintain IREN's commissioning specifications for the discipline: Division 1 commissioning specification content, acceptance criteria, Level 1 to Level 5 definitions and integrated systems test requirements, for new build and conversion projects and for both self-performed and general-contractor delivery.
  • Act as the technical escalation point for the campus commissioning teams; settle standard-versus-schedule questions with the Cx Project Manager and the Director, and record the decision.
  • Review the Commissioning Authority's commissioning plans, test scripts and reports for compliance with the standard; audit field execution, witness sampling and first-of-kind installations across sites.
  • Give commissioning input to Engineering on basis of design and specifications, and to Procurement on equipment, factory test requirements and Commissioning Authority scopes of work and request-for-proposal templates.
  • Lead the factory witness testing strategy for critical equipment in the discipline and approve factory acceptance test procedures.
  • Lead root-cause analysis on significant discipline failures or repeat deficiencies and turn the findings into changes to the standard.
  • Own the controls commissioning standard: BMS, EPMS, SCADA and PLC architecture requirements, points and alarm standards, telemetry naming, point-to-point and sequence-of-operations testing, failure-mode and integrated systems testing, DCIM integration and OT security verification.
  • Track emerging standards and codes for the regions IREN builds in (ASHRAE Guideline 0, Guideline 1.6P and Standard 202, ASHRAE 90.4, NEC and NETA ATS in the United States; the Canadian Electrical Code and CSA standards in Canada) and update IREN standards accordingly.
  • Develop and deliver the discipline's technical training modules with the Training Program Lead; sit on interview panels and mentor the project commissioning leads and IREN's site commissioning crews.
  • Support the procurement and mobilization of Commissioning Authorities in new regions so that the IREN standard applies from day one.
