Compute Sourcing Specialist
Location: Remote | Type: Full time | Department: Procurement / Supply Chain | Reports to: Purchasing Manager
Role Overview
The company is launching a new compute division and is looking for a commercially driven Compute Sourcing Specialist to build and own the sourcing side of it from day one. This is a rare opportunity to stand up a new business line within an established, well-resourced distributor, rather than maintain an existing desk.
You will own the procurement of compute products, including processors, memory, storage, servers and associated hardware, building the supplier network, securing competitive stock and setting up the sourcing processes behind the division. You will work hand in hand with a dedicated sales representative who is launching the division alongside you, so close partnership between buy and sell side is central to the role and to the division’s success.
The successful candidate will combine strong market awareness with analytical capability and sharp negotiation skills to build the division’s sourcing strategy and drive margin from the outset.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and own the sourcing function for the new compute division from the ground up
- Source, negotiate and procure compute products (CPUs, GPUs, memory, storage, servers and associated hardware) in line with demand
- Build and develop a strong supplier network of manufacturers, distributors and brokers for the compute market
- Work in close partnership with the division’s sales representative to align sourcing with customer demand, quotes and bid opportunities
- Monitor market trends, pricing movements, allocation and product lifecycles within the compute sector, buying ahead of shortages where possible
- Negotiate pricing, rebates and commercial agreements to maximize margin and competitiveness
- Manage supplier performance, delivery schedules and lead times
- Ensure all parts are sourced in line with quality, authenticity and counterfeit-avoidance standards, working closely with the in-house test lab
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and inventory levels within the ERP system
- Identify supply risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Work closely with finance on cost control and supplier payment terms, and support new vendor onboarding as the division scales
Key Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in purchasing or sourcing, ideally within electronics, IT hardware or the independent/open market
- Strong knowledge of compute products (CPUs, GPUs, memory, storage, servers and components)
- Proven negotiation and supplier management skills
- Commercially minded, with strong margin and cost-control awareness
- Awareness of quality, authenticity and counterfeit-avoidance considerations in the independent market
- Excellent analytical and forecasting abilities
- A self-starter comfortable building something new and working in close partnership with sales
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, market-driven environment
