About the Role MojoTech is hiring a Market Research contractor to build the market and competitive intelligence foundation for AI product strategy assessments across a private equity portfolio. This is not client-facing — you produce the research package that others present and build on. Your work is scoped once per industry vertical and reused across every company assessed in that vertical, so it has to be right, and it has to hold up when a company's roadmap gets measured against it. Duration: 9 weeks (some weeks full time, some partial) What You'll Do Lead the market and disruption thesis per 3 industry verticals: pull category AI-trend research using analyst reports and the right tools for PE-grade analysis, scan AI-native entrants disrupting the category, and build the category-level feature-expectation baseline Identify named competitors per company and overlay their position against the industry baseline Contribute competitive evidence, the feature comparison grid and competitor positioning to support roadmap pressure test verdicts Contribute industry vertical category signals and AI-native entrant patterns that seed the ranked AI opportunities list Source the disruption rating that feeds into the portfolio-level disruption exposure roll-up Use AI tools to accelerate research and drafting, while critically evaluating AI-generated output for accuracy and gaps before it goes into any report Write the market and disruption thesis narrative to a depth sufficient for a company's product roadmap to be credibly assessed against it What You'll Bring Demonstrated experience conducting market and competitive research specifically for private equity clients, with a clear understanding of the depth and rigor PE stakeholders expect Familiarity with the specific tools and sources suited to category-level AI disruption and competitive analysis, not general web search Fluency using AI and deep-research tools to augment research, paired with the judgment to critically evaluate their output for accuracy, hallucination, and gaps A track record of having produced market or disruption thesis reports and competitive feature-comparison baselines before Strong competitive intelligence and product critique writing Executive communication skills, since your output is handed off for others to present and for other roles to build on Nice to Have Vertical domain literacy in healthcare IT, life sciences, RegTech/compliance, financial services, or other regulated B2B software markets Prior experience specifically on AI strategy assessment engagements What Success Looks Like Your industry research is rigorous and reusable enough that every company assessment in that vertical builds on it without rework. Your competitive baselines hold up under board-level scrutiny. Your reports give the AI Strategists enough depth to credibly pressure-test a roadmap against category reality, and your disruption ratings are sound enough to roll up cleanly into the portfolio-level view.
