Summary of Position
The Credit & Collections Supervisor is experienced in credit risk, policies, and collection negotiations. This individual is eager to support a growing finance department that depends on operational team leaders to lead all aspects of credit and collections, acting as a strategic business partner to improve cash flow and resolve past due accounts. This role leads a small team of Billing Specialists.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Supervise, train, and coach credit and collections staff, including setting daily priorities and workload distribution.
- Conduct performance reviews, set productivity goals, and address performance issues.
- Participate in hiring and onboarding for the collections team.
Credit Management
- Review and approve new customer credit applications and credit limit requests within established authority.
- Evaluate customer creditworthiness using financial statements, trade references, and credit reporting agencies.
- Monitor existing accounts for changes in risk and recommend credit holds or limit adjustments.
Collections Oversight
- Manage the accounts receivable aging portfolio and drive reduction of past due balances.
- Handle escalated or high value collection accounts directly.
- Negotiate payment plans and settlements with customers.
- Recommend accounts for third party collection agencies or legal action, and coordinate with counsel as needed.
Dispute and Deduction Resolution
- Investigate billing disputes, short payments, and deductions in partnership with Sales, Billing, and Operations.
- Ensure timely resolution and issuance of credits or adjustments.
Reporting and Analysis
- Track and report KPIs such as DSO, aging buckets, collection effectiveness, and bad debt.
- Prepare monthly reserve recommendations and account write off proposals for Finance leadership.
- Forecast cash collections to support cash flow planning.
Policy, Process, and Compliance
- Develop, maintain, and enforce credit and collections policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, including the FDCPA where relevant, and internal controls.
- Support month end close, audits, and account reconciliations.
- Identify process improvements and leverage ERP or AR automation tools.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 5-7 years of related overall experience
- 1-3 years of related supervisory experience
- Familiarity with state collection rules and enterprise financial systems
- Knowledge of high-level collection techniques
