About the role

As the Data Architect / DBA, you will be responsible for the strategic design, governance, quality, security, and management of enterprise data assets across the organisation. The successful candidate will ensure that organisational data is accurate, consistent, secure, and optimised to support business operations, reporting, analytics, engineering processes, and strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities

Data Architecture & Strategy

• Develop and maintain the enterprise data architecture roadmap aligned with business objectives.

• Design logical and physical data models supporting current and future enterprise applications.

• Define standards, principles, and best practices for enterprise data management.

• Create and maintain data dictionaries, metadata repositories, and documentation.

• Establish scalable architectures supporting ERP, PLM including Manufacturing Systems, and reporting platforms.

• Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to ensure data structures support operational and strategic requirements

Data Governance

• Lead the organisation's Data Governance framework and strategy.

• Establish policies, standards, controls, and procedures governing enterprise data.

• Define ownership, stewardship, and accountability models for critical business data.

• Develop data quality metrics and governance KPIs.

• Support compliance requirements related to data security, privacy, retention, and auditability.

Database Administration

• Administer, monitor, maintain, and optimise enterprise database environments.

• Ensure high availability, performance tuning, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.

• Implement database security controls and access management.

• Manage database upgrades, patching, and lifecycle maintenance activities.

• Troubleshoot and resolve database performance and integrity issues.

• Monitor database capacity planning and growth forecasting.

Data Quality & Data Cleansing

• Lead enterprise data quality improvement initiatives.

• Assess existing data sources and identify quality issues, duplicates, inconsistencies, and gaps.

• Develop data cleansing standards, validation rules, and remediation processes.

• Manage Master Data Management (MDM) activities for key business entities including Customers, Suppliers, Products, Bill of Material (BoM), Engineering Parts, Inventory items

• Establish ongoing monitoring processes to sustain data integrity.

Data Migration & Transformation

• Lead data migration workstreams for enterprise technology implementations.

• Define migration strategies, methodologies, and governance controls.

• Perform data discovery, profiling, mapping, transformation, validation, and reconciliation activities.

• Oversee migration of data into:

• Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems

• Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems

• Engineering repositories

• Manufacturing systems

• Other ad hoc business systems, Reporting and Analytics platforms

• Develop migration templates, validation processes, and cutover plans.

• Coordinate migration testing including unit, integration, user acceptance, and production readiness testing.

• Ensure successful data conversion and post-go-live stabilisation.

Enterprise System Integration

• Design and support integrations between ERP, PLM, CRM, Manufacturing, Quality, and reporting systems.

• Define data exchange standards and interface requirements.

• Collaborate with application owners and implementation partners to ensure data consistency across platforms.

• Support API, ETL, middleware, and data integration initiatives

• Reporting & Analytics Support

• Partner with business leaders to enable reliable reporting and analytics capabilities.

• Ensure data structures support operational reporting and business intelligence solutions.

• Maintain trusted data sources and reporting datasets.

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Work closely with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Quality, Manufacturing, and IT teams.

• Serve as the primary data subject matter expert during business transformation projects.

• Provide guidance on data-related risks, dependencies, and opportunities.

Health & Safety

• Demonstrate in daily activities a commitment to health and safety in the workplace by always ensuring tasks are performed in the safest possible manner.

• Report all hazards and incidents that the individual is party to, or observes, in the correct manner.

• When required or directed, participate in any health and safety training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, Engineering, or related field.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

• Significant experience in Data Architecture, Database Administration, Data Management, or related disciplines.

• Proven track record of leading enterprise-wide data migration projects.

• Strong background in the implementation of ERP platforms, ideally SAP or a similar system.

• Involvement in the delivery and support of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions.

• Knowledge of Master Data Management (MDM) and Data Governance frameworks and best practices.

• Understanding of Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain data structures and models.

• Demonstrated capability in overseeing data cleansing, validation, and transformation activities.

• Strong knowledge of data management principles, including data modelling, governance, master data management, and data quality.

• Familiarity with database technologies and cloud-based data platforms, such as SQL Server, MySQL, Azure SQL, or similar.

• Proven capability in data integration, migration, and transformation activities, including ETL processes and API-based integrations.

• Understanding of enterprise business systems, including ERP and PLM platforms.

• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and project delivery skills, with the ability to drive change and continuous improvement.

• A strategic and analytical mindset, with strong problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail.

Desirable:

• Experience of Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools

Personal Attributes

• Must be a British Citizen or have an existing right to work in the UK.

• Comfortable working in secure, regulated environments where confidentiality, integrity, documentation, and process discipline are essential.

• Ability to commit to occasional national travel.

• A full valid UK driving license.

• Ability to hold Security Clearance – 5 years residence in the UK.
